Since the dawn of cinema films have been released to the world a few weeks after the states or the country of origin, it's nothing new. Over the past few years the odd film would have a month gap, though recently I've seen news of upcoming films' release dates that are downright ridiculous.
Super 8
US: 10 June
UK: 5 August
The Muppets (2011/2012)
US: November 23
UK: February 17
The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn
UK: 26 October
US: 23 December
Coraline
US: 6 February
UK: 8 May
Why do some films have such huge gaps? Super 8, which I'm very much looking forward to, will probably be ruined by the time I see it. I don't see how it can take so long to get films in other countries.

Every time someone says "pants" they have to dub it to "trousers" or else British audiences will completely miss the point of the films and won't have any idea what's going on.

If people actually sit and watch some shitty cam quality version of a good movie then they are some pretty sad individuals.
I'm very much looking forward to see Tintin 2 months before you Americans :smug:
