That sounds very un-likely. I can imagine an inflatable matress popping, but blowing up and causing burns? :raise:
When I read the title, I instantly thought 'MacGyver!'
Turns out it was an accident, dangit.
I remember i read a guide how to make a mattress into a bomb like thing that when you apply force on it (like jump on it) it kicks up from ground, although it had no explosion at all.
Also it had a video of it shown on a field.

so he patched it up with flammable tire solvent which had gases that mixed in with the air inside
so it pretty much turned into a giant container of flammable air
