Bomb disposal experts have carried out a controlled explosion on a hand grenade found in an Edinburgh garden.
The device, believed to be from World War II, was unearthed during excavation work on Thursday.
Police and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit were alerted and the area around Melville Street was cordoned off.
Lothian and Borders Police said the grenade was detonated at about 10:30.
A spokeswoman said it did not present a serious risk to the public.
Melville Street has now been reopened.
It's amazingly common, it only makes the news when it's found in developed urban areas.
UXO is like grass in France.

Though to be fair it's quite odd in a place like Edinburgh.
Once I was in the thames barrier park in London and the whole park was evacuated and bomb disposal units were brought in under suspicion of a grenade on the riverbank. Turned out it was a toy.

Shit from WW2 is always turning up, I think about a year or two ago a German family found an undetonated bomb, just sort of chilling in the forest.

That incident got into a Sensationalist Headlines Article but I cant be arsed to link it.
I'm surprised that no one tried to fry it in all these years.
