Amazon has extended its "Prime-Exclusive Items" initiative to block non-Prime members from being able to purchase certain video games.
The change was spotted by customers this morning, with the PS4 versions of GTA 5, Rainbow Six Siege and Assassin's Creed Syndicate now only available to Prime members, along with the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Far Cry Primal, Battlefield Hardline and more.
If you aren't a member of Amazon Prime, you will now see a box with a blue border on the right of the page "identifying the item as Prime-Exclusive", and will not be able to add the item to your basket.
edit:
i fucked the title up while trying to edit it now it's stuck :ok:
edit 2:
fixd thanks to mod
That's a bit odd to do but I imagine maybe it has something to do with scams?
I don't know? what's the reason specifically to do this?
[editline]22nd April 2016[/editline]
are they just trying to rake in more prime members or some shit?
Seems like a good way to shoot yourself in the foot

Literally the only reason to buy amazon prime is if you use it a ton
2 day shipping for free is like, 100% worth it, but only an idiot would buy prime just to order a game. There's like... a billion different sites to buy this shit.
I refuse to believe they're crazy enough to stick with this decision

amazon prime in the us has 20% off brand new games and pre-orders
basically if you pre-order or buy a game (as long as its physical i think) within two weeks after its release, you get a discount on games.
12$ off per game, prime is 99$ a year. 8 games = 1 full year of prime.
thats a good reason to buy games with amazon prime.

Fixed the title. Sucks though, Prime is basically useless for me since I'm not in the US.

I imagine living in Australia there are far more issues then just not having Prime for video games. :v:

Like digital games taking days to download on this blazing fast 5/1 connection (with bonus data cap!) for $110 a month.
Can anyone get a picture of this "Prime-Exclusive" blue box thing?

You could just go to the website and see it for yourself, it's still there.
All you have to do is go to the page for the game they mention in the OP but here you go.

Yeah, the spiders in my backyard are just too damn big to kill. In all seriousness though amazon really needs to step up their game in Australia, the Aussie amazon site only sells kindle books and shipping to Aus is expensive.
Right, this is the fucking dumbest thing they could have chosen to do. Amazon is my go to place to get games, as they are cheaper than digital, other retailers, and you can get free day one delivery on preorders.
If they continue doing this though you can guarantee that I will not be using them again for games. Forcing Prime down peoples throat is fucking dumb, especially when not everyone uses amazon so much that it makes prime worth it.

I'm a prime member, I'd need to clear my cache. But this says that it's reserved at that price for Prime members. Is there no other way to view a different price?

The wording there seems intentional.

On the UK site you can choose to buy from other sellers without prime (which is stupid in GTAV's case because they are cheaper from other sellers anyway), but to buy directly from amazon you gotta prime it up.
[editline]22nd April 2016[/editline]
This makes even less sense considering that you can't buy from amazon without prime, but you can choose a different seller that's fulfilled by amazon and not need prime.
Does it only block sellers that are protected by Amazon? Can you still buy from third-party sellers?
But what about money?!
Does it only block sellers that are protected by Amazon? Can you still buy from third-party sellers?
It's only if it's directly from amazon. You can still buy them from other sellers, and even ones that are fulfilled by amazon.
Amazon seems to be doing everything in their power to push me away.
I dont use them enough to justify prime, the raise to $50 minimum for free shipping, and now this is just making me not use them at all.
I was expecting Metroid Prime and Primal Rage to be on the list.
Luckily Amazon don't work here, So it doesn't really effect people outside of America.

It affects the EU as well.
They've been doing the same thing on Amazon UK for about 3 months

I mean there are other options for buying video games, Like shopping centers but i hear those in the US are closing down more frequently.

If you're buying Prime for that alone, save yourself some money. $30, two years, same exact benefits for games. If you actually use Prime for Prime Video or 2-day shipping, then by all means, it's a good deal, but it's hard to beat ~3 games equaling two years of gamer's club.

Amazon is usually the cheapest place to get games.
The main Video Game store in the UK is GAME. On release a game will be sold there for £50, or on Amazon £37.
Some supermarkets also sell games on release but they're usually £40-45.
I feel like Amazon 'peaked' a few years ago at one point when Amazon Student Prime was really cheap and there was no minimum for the standard free shipping. I had Student Prime for a while and when it ran out, I simply went back to regular shipping since it was fine. Everyone was happy and Amazon was the go-to site for like, everything (at least in the US).
But then they started raising the Prime price and adding a minimum total to the free shipping. I actually didn't know that the current minimum is $49, which is ridiculous in my opinion. I started taking their free shipping for granted since that's how I bought everything, but now I rarely buy anything that even comes close to $49. Might as well just go to the damn store yourself if that's the case.
Amazon is going down the toilet, apparently their CEO has forgot that the internet is a big place and there's plenty of people willing to sell shit for cheap.

I've never had a $49 minimum for free 2 day shipping.....
I'm doing the free trial for prime and what 2 day free shipping? Everything I ordered last time took 5 days to ship and one of the items won't be here til May 9th. So yeah 2 day shipping my ass.

2 day shipping isn't on all items, just prime eligible ones.
