People who have been to PAX in the past should read this.

What is PAX? PAX is a three-day game festival for tabletop, videogame, and PC gamers. We call it a festival because in addition to dedicated tournaments and freeplay areas we've got nerdcore concerts, panel discussions, the weekend-long Omegathon event, and an exhibitor hall filled with booths displaying the latest from top game publishers and developers. Even with all this amazing content the best part of PAX is hanging out with other people who know their shit when it comes to games. If this is tldr, maybe this video will answer your question. There is generally 3 sections to Penny-Arcade Expo: 1. Lan Section: This is fairly obvious. People sign up for BYOC (Bring your own computer) and they fill up this area with people's PCs, Laptops, Macs, whatever. A large majority of these people LAN in their spare time when they aren't seeing other convention sections. This area is monitored 24/7 by volunteer security (Enforcers). 2. Speaker/Panel Section: This is the area where panels and guest speakers are. Tycho and Gabe (Jerry and Mike) often give panels, along with many other guest speakers from the industry and other things. It's worth checking out at least one panel while you attend, especially if you want to get into the industry. NOTE: Certain panels like the Tycho and Gabe panels fill up before the previous panels begin, meanwhile some like the Wizards of the Coast Dungeon Master panels almost never fill up. Plan ahead accordingly. 3. Convention Centre: This is the actual 'convention' part of this convention. Booths are set-up all over by people from the industry. This is your chance to meet lots of famous people from the industry, and even nab lots of free stuff. Intel almost always gives away free T-Shirts, and there's always lots of stuff to find. You won't get bored here. There is also a semi-4th section, which is the concert area. PAX has a wonderful line-up of musical artists this year including... A: This convention encompasses more than just Video Games. It's a large part of the Penny-Arcade culture, and it's a community of people meeting together because of a shared interest. Q: How much does it cost? What do I need to bring? Can I bring (item)? A: Please see the official faq here. Q: What is Penny-Arcade? Who are these guys? A: The two people running this convention are Jerry and Mike (Tycho and Gabe, respectively) who are two people who in conjunction, have been drawing a video game comic for the last 11 or so years. They have recently expanded to include this huge convention, and now run a little charity called 'Child's Play' which raises money to buy video games for kids in hospitals and has raised millions world-wide. You can find the Penny-Arcade website here and the Child's Play site here. Shoot me a PM or leave a reply here if you want to get added to the list. Is there (insert item)? Please see the official faq here for answers to your questions.
PAX East is the equivalent of PAX Prime brought to the East Coast. It's held in Boston every year March 26th-28th. It was first started in 2010 and saw huge success with tens of thousands of people showing up. It's arguably as big as PAX Prime. Please see the info above for more details. It is all relevant to both sides of PAX. For more info, please visit the official site here.
I bet this year's PAX'll have a little something on the Golden Wrench charity dealio.
Whoah, I have relatives in Seattle, I should get to their place...
Whoah, I have relatives in Seattle, I should get to their place...
Do it. See your relatives, pick up a ticket for $35, you got yourself a fun time.
nah, people got H1N1 at last years PAX.
Like 2 minutes from this, still not gonna go 35 bucks fuck that
i was hoping for the comics
Like 2 minutes from this, still not gonna go 35 bucks fuck that
You don't want to meet industry professionals, participate in a huge LAN Party, or listen to a lot of famous people/industry professionals give talks? Your loss mate.
Doesnt look as good as last year. Probably wont go.
Doesnt look as good as last year. Probably wont go.
How does it not look as good? You can predict the future? It's bigger, has more room, it's sold out faster than before, got a great concert line-up, what's not to like? I'd understand if the schedule was already released, but it isn't.
Aren't they having a PAX east cost?
Aren't they having a PAX east cost?
The first PAX East was held this year March 26th-28th. It'll be held again in Boston at the same time next year. Keep an eye out for news about it here.
I want to go so bad.
I want to go so bad.
Then go? If you're closer to east coast, go to PAX East. If you're closer to west, go to PAX Prime (West). It's not that expensive if you don't fly. My friend is expecting to only spend a few hundred dollars. I'm expecting to spend around $800-$900 because I'll totally buy tons of geeky clothes, because I'm cool like that.
Awesome. I'll try to go.
It's worth it. It'll be a lot of fun.
Today is the last day to buy a badge and have it mailed to you. Otherwise, you'll have to either pick it up or print it off. Damn automerge.
This place is going to smell ungodly bad.
Wish I could go.
Where is it taking place this year?
wish this was closer to me, sounds fucking amazing
I already got my tickets, I'm going with my cousin, hopefully I will see you there!
My friend goes every year, hopefully next year I can get the time to go.
Where is it taking place this year?
Seattle, same place it happens every year. PAX East occurs in boston.
wish this was closer to me, sounds fucking amazing
Consider PAX East? It's becoming larger every year and is held in Boston, March 26th-28th. Obviously, going to both would be insane but if you're closer to Boston, it's worth considering.
I already got my tickets, I'm going with my cousin, hopefully I will see you there!
Bringing your computer or no? I'll add you to the list.
The official pax twitter (twitter.com/official_pax) twittered yesterday morning that there was only 500 friday badges left. I checked registration and there appears to still be badges, but they will run out very shortly! If you plan to go friday and haven't registered yet, go now. After that, only Sunday badges will be left. i gotta get to boston next year...
i gotta get to boston next year...
I wish I could go to Boston, PAX East sounds just as good as PAX West. Fortunately, I'm super close to PAX West.
i just wish i could go to either, being in minnesota, i feel boston would be easier
i just wish i could go to either, being in minnesota, i feel boston would be easier
Both look around equal. I guess your best bet would be to Google Route or w/e both and figure out the distance.
I'll see you guys there.
