At least he acknowledged you as a person.
I remember the first few hours everyone was super nice and working together because it was night, no one had anything, and we were all still trying to figure out the game. Now, it's back to good ol DayZ

It's been about 50/50 for me, usually people with mic shout friendly and then we just kind of sidestep around each other and go about our way, then others will try to kill me despite me saying friendly/etc. I don't mind it as much on DayZ as other games like Rust/WarZ/etc, mainly because guns are now harder to come by and in general I find it much easier to be careful and avoid people considering the environment is much more rich with cover and hiding places and its designed that way. I'll often see people before they see me then just go about my business keeping an eye on them until we are apart.
The bandits are actually still in the minority right now. Only one guy has been hostile towards me. Seen countless guys kitted out with guns that just wave and walk by. This has happened even today whilst playing.
Yesterday was a good day to play. Everybody I came in the yesterday was friendly for the most part. Today everybody decides to kill me even if I'm a fresh spawn. If I keep getting KOS'd today then sorry guys I'm going bandit.

We avoid conflict usually, but if they come at us we take defensive and if there's no response we assume hostile. Can't take chances. Last night we lost 3 of our group to another group of 2 or 3 who were raiding the same military base as us. It's difficult to remain good on this game when everyone's out to get you.
if you're a group, you're more likely to kill others since you're happy with however many trustworthy friends you have and don't want to invite someone you don't know into your group. people are more likely to kill you because they know this too.

We kill a fair few people in military loot areas simply because its easier than trusting them, especially around the military bases when all it takes is for them to find a gun or grab one off a dead body and potentially they could wipe all of us out.
I run along the train tracks of the coast playing Two Door Cinema Club and see what people do. Some guy came out of the dark with a hockey mask and a baseball bat... holy shit I'm not joking.
Nice hit detection.
cue the "I remember when people were nice" posts even though it's been KOS since the revolver was added to the alpha
i was getting chased in the dark by a guy with a fire extinguisher saying that i smelt pretty traumatised for life
I'm so glad i play this with my friend, this little kid wouldn't leave me alone ( i swear some people never learn ) and just kept screaming down the mic "Hey! lets team up! :D i need a gun follow me! i've played this game loads!" Thanks to my friend who kindly came up behind him shortly after and fire axed him in the skull i don't have to make these difficult decisions :D
isnt the whole point of this game to kill other players?
isnt the whole point of this game to kill other players?
It's to survive, to have an easier time to get supplies you can group up with others.
i was getting chased in the dark by a guy with a fire extinguisher saying that i smelt pretty traumatised for life
did he also want to wear your face
isnt the whole point of this game to kill other players?
It's to do anything. You could spend your first life camping on top of a mountain in the forest. You hold out with supplies and a sniper rifle and shoot unsuspecting players just scouting the roads below. Maybe the occasional group comes along. Or a car with players in it. And that's all you do. Scavenge, explore, and kill other players. Or, maybe you could be part of those groups. Work together with friends to survive. Meet people along the way, maybe make new friends. Maybe you'll find a town that's been taken over by friendly players. And they invite you in. Maybe you become part of a community or a clan. Maybe on the next life you decide to start a community in a part of the map. It's pretty much endless... to the limits that come from a zombie apocalypse.
Met two players outside North West Airfield when me and my bro were heading south after looting. We all had guns, but just waved to each other and went our seperate ways. It was a very peaceful and rare encounter, and I feel like maybe the game has gone a bit back to it's roots, for me at least.

It's still basically loot, kill, die with maybe some vehicle repairing along the way and epic firefights. Imo there's still more stuff that could be done with the genre than what is already available.
So what do you actually do in DayZ if you're not going to PvP at all? Like, the only thing I can think of is hoarding goods and good weapons, which is pointless as the zombies in the game aren't really anything other than a nuisance once you get good at avoiding them. [editline]21st December 2013[/editline] My point is what would be the fun in DayZ if all of you veterans had your dream of only friendly players realized?

[editline]21st December 2013[/editline] My point is what would be the fun in DayZ if all of you veterans had your dream of only friendly players realized?
There was a time when people would pick fights with those in the same league as themselves, or by standing their ground. The problem for me is that a fresh new spawn with nothing will be shot at on the beach and even hunted down by players with vastly superior gear. Even when you spawned with a Markov you could be safe in the knowledge that someone with high end gear would just leave you be because you were literally not worth the bullet. But now (now being reltive to about 7 months back for me) everyone is fair game. That was the reason i stopped playing public servers.
The primary problem with KOS right now is that there's fuck-all to do when you reach the "endgame". It took me a little over five hours to get all the gear I could ever possibly need. Personally I try to avoid killing anyone, but there's just not much to do at that point so I think a lot of people will just start shooting players out of boredom. That being said, I have encountered so many friendly players in the standalone compared to the mod. If you're a little cautious and don't trust anyone too soon then you should be able to at least get a bit of gear. I've met one guy who was actually trying to kill me, the rest I've ether co-operated with or we've avoided each other. I imagine however, that as soon as the spawn locations for assault rifles become known, things will revert back to KoS, simply because there's nothing else to do. Oh yeah, and I'm not in any way wishing for a purely PvE themed experience. It's the uncertainty and the paranoia that makes player interaction fun, it just feels like wasted potential if every encounter ends with someone getting killed.

or its more to do with very simply Game Theory.
goddamn that sky is pretty
I remember getting chased from Kamenka all the way to Elektro by a guy who just wanted to punch me, I ended up giving in once we reached Elektro, he just started hitting me repeatedly.
or an even easier time by aiming well and killing said groups taking their shit
If the group knows anything about playing A2 then they will really fuck your shit up
Not going to lie, I've been murdering everyone.
