• Santorum to Romney: Use same sex marriage debate as a potent weapon
Washington (CNN) – Rick Santorum is urging Mitt Romney to "step up" and weaponize the issue of same-sex marriage. "This is a very potent weapon, if you will, for Governor Romney if he's willing to step up and take advantage of a president who is very much out of touch with the values of America," Santorum said in an eye-opening live interview with Arkansas TV station KARK, a CNN affiliate. The former presidential candidate made the remarks before appearing at the Benton County Republican Lincoln Day Dinner in the northwest corner of the state Friday night. Santorum's comments also came the night before Romney's speech before the Christian conservative Liberty University in Virginia on Saturday. Romney's one time rival noted the recent results of a ballot issue in North Carolina where voters approved a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. "Hopefully Governor Romney will continue to stand tall for his position on this issue and understand how detrimental it would be for society for it to have this changed," Santorum also told the Arkansas station. "Governor Romney has to talk about his values," he added. "That's the most important thing." On Wednesday, President Obama stated his support for same-sex marriage in reversal of his stance on the sensitive issue. Following the president's comments, Romney seemed hesitant to take on what he called a "tender" subject, though he did reiterate his view that marriage should be between a man and a woman. Santorum's remarks also indicate the former Pennsylvania senator is not fully on board Romney's team. After a bitter primary season battle, Santorum endorsed Romney in a lengthy email to his supporters. But Santorum did not actually state his endorsement until the tail end of the message. When asked whether he would be interested in running as Romney's running mate, Santorum demurred. "It's one thing you don't campaign for – at least I'm not campaigning for," Santorum said.
Source: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/05/12/santorum-to-romney-step-up-and-use-potent-weapon-of-same-sex-marriage/?hpt=hp_t1
Romney? Values? Sorry, no.
I don't see the fucking point in making same-sex marriage illegal, love is love and I don't see how same-sex marriage could utterly destroy society as we know it. A man and a man are now married? Wow-wee who gives a fuck, let them be happy we don't need to strict them of what they can and cannot do. Jesus christ people are fucking retarded
It's funny, a few years ago I used to oppose gay marriage. Looking back on that, I don't think I had a single legitimate point on why it should be illegal.
what i don't understand, is that same sex does not concern ANYONE but the couple. Why do so many Americans think they should have a say in other peoples business.

This is how consumerism works, this is how private property works, and the same concept ended up being the center of every day life as well. Long story short, some straight people want to forbid same sex marriage so they can be superior to homosexual people in some way. It's petty, childish and retarded in a lot of ways, but that's how society works and has been working for as long as history books can relate.
"This is a very potent weapon, if you will, for Governor Romney if he's willing to step up and take advantage of a president who is very much out of touch with the values of America,"
Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the majority of Americans fine with the idea of same sex marriage or at very least neutral?
These people, that whole generation of people grew up in a environment where homosexuals seemed to be non existent, in all reality they were always there. Due to the invention of the internet and modern media, gays have now become more known to this generation of people. It is because of this, these people think they suddenly started becoming gay in the last few decades. Thus giving them the idea, it was choice rather than be born that way. It is unbelievable how bad these people act like bigots, but its there ignorance that explains the way they think and act.
Wasn't Romney the governor of Massachusetts, one of the first states to legalize gay marriage?
It's funny, a few years ago I used to oppose gay marriage. Looking back on that, I don't think I had a single legitimate point on why it should be illegal.
My only reasoning was "I hate faggots". I'd imagine it's the same for a lot of these gay marriage opposers.
what i don't understand, is that same sex does not concern ANYONE but the couple. Why do so many Americans think they should have a say in other peoples business.
But somebody wrote that somebody close to god said that god doesn't like it!!

The sad thing isn't that he does this, nor that he gets away with it. The sad thing is that it works..
It's hard to just call santorum a conservative, he's more of a reactionary.
I like how it's not about wrong or right anymore but rather to use it as "something Obama is not against" and thus the anti-thesis can be used by his opponents.
It's funny, a few years ago I used to oppose gay marriage. Looking back on that, I don't think I had a single legitimate point on why it should be illegal.
I don't blame you. In Primary School I was totally hellbent on thinking gays were wrong but in grade 8 I slowly started to realize not to give a fuck about people and their choices (unless they were self harming/killing themselves). You go through a stage where you just don't see it right but eventually grow to accept it.
It's hard to just call santorum a conservative, he's more of a reactionary.
That's what conservatism is.
"This is a very potent weapon, if you will, for Governor Romney if he's willing to step up and take advantage of a president who is very much out of touch with the values of America,"
lol irony
I have to admit, it is clever.
"This is a very potent weapon, if you will, for Governor Romney if he's willing to step up and take advantage of a president who is very much out of touch with the values of America,"
You mean the values of a country that prides itself on freedom of the people, yet doesnt give gays the right to marry?
Thus giving them the idea, it was choice rather than be born that way.
Even if it is/was choice it wouldn't be a problem. As long as the government isn't forcing heterosexual people to marry people of their own sex nothing is wrong with it.
I'll find it fucking hilarious if he does. Romney is mainly not using it as a weapon because it will fall apart on him due to his actions as governor and his legalization of it in his state.
Every time someone talks about "values" I want to punch them in the face, because when they say "values", what they ALWAYS mean is "outdated, out-of-touch medieval ideas based on dogma, ignorance and bigotry."
This is now Santorum's theme song.

Thats ridiculous. How do voters know what he actually thinks?
You mean the values of a country that prides itself on freedom of the people, yet doesnt give gays the right to marry?
No no no you misunderstand he is talking about religious freedoms. My religion says that being gay is bad ergo stopping me from hating gays is against religious freedoms ergo gay marriage is also persecuting my religious freedoms. My religious freedoms take priority over all because I am free to be free to project my freedom! Shockingly these are actual arguments I have seen some people use to justify their hate. Meh the state shouldn't be involved in people's personal relationships in the first place - it should treat everyone as individuals.
Meh the state shouldn't be involved in people's personal relationships in the first place - it should treat everyone as individuals.
One of my friends said to me, "You know, Christianity didn't invent marriage and it doesn't own it". My response was, "I agree, but neither does the state."
That's what conservatism is.
Reactionaries are essentially extreme conservatives, who instead of simply desiring slow political change, desire to take the government back in time. [editline]1:09PM[/editline] Actually, I think Ron Paul is the only candidate that could qualify as a reactionary.
A reactionary is an individual that holds reactionary political viewpoints which cause them to seek to return to a previous state (the status quo ante) in a society.
If Romney uses same-sex marriage as a weapon, he'll kill himself with it.
