• Sound on PC doesn't work without a reboot.

I have a sound issue on my older desktop using the on board audio. It's a Gigabyte GA-945GZM-S2 with a Pentium D 940 and a GeForce 8600 GT running on Windows 7 64-bit. The first time I boot it up for the day the sound doesn't work at all, I can see the meter in the audio panel moving with sound but nothing comes out of the speakers. Then I can shut it off, turn off the power switch on the PSU for a few seconds, and when I boot it back up the sound works perfect every time. I think it's when it sits for a few hours the sound stops working again, but I can't really tell what causes it as sometimes it works after the machine has been off for a week and sometimes it doesn't work if it's been off for 30 minutes and all other scenarios, it seems to be random. This is annoying to me but I want to sell this system soon as it has LEDs in it which seems to sell them on craigslist. Looking for any ideas on how to trouble shoot and not opposed to buying a low end sound card or new mATX motherboard at reasonable cost.
