And people still call me crazy for owning Huawei and Xiaomi hardware,

I heard nothing but good about Xiaomi phones. Are they any good? Been recommending this to my girlfriend since she likes it cheap, but not sure if its a good bet for her in the end.
Heard very good things about Xiaomi, apparently their devices are pretty open too so you could just install another version of android on it without any of that unnecessary eFuse shit.

I run their operating system on my device
it's updating weekly, and brings a lot of new ideas to extend some functionalities (QR code wlan sharing among other nice things)
dosen't come with googleapps though, because china
not hard to fix
IMO, MiUI isn't as good as stock android in terms of looks (unless you're a fan of iOS), but in terms of functionality it adds a ton of stuff.

Miui 7 runs on kitkat
Many of the menus feels like an ios device, settings really is the key one, along with its store interfaces having the the same aesthetic, but they do some really good animations as well, the clock is one of my favourites.
But remember, that it's China being the first market they sell to, while having a unique interface is something that's great to see, creating an interface based on what a key demographic is used to is great to ease people from one operating system to another
