Every time someone likes this Facebook page, $1 is donated to Japan relief.

Somebody in my school took initiative and decided to call the American Red Cross. They told him he could set up a facebook page, and for every like he gets on that page, they will donate $1 to Japan's relief.
This is your chance guys. You don't even need money to donate now. If you could all go to this page and click a button, you could contribute to help thousands.
I wish I had more to write, but there are more details on the page itself.

Why doesn't the Red Cross just give Japan the money now? It seems easier than waiting for people to like it.

It's still a good cause though.
It's like that one comedian's joke about athletes who promise to donate money if they win games.
Why not just fucking donate the money now, and then win the game?
58th dollar.
I liked the page just because it's a helpful cause.
But I agree that money should be sent over now to help.
eh I liked it. Why not.
I agree, when I first heard about it, I was kinda surprised that Red Cross pulled this kinda thing on us instead of just donating like $1,000,000 now. I'm thinking it's to show "look at how this school gathered support". But anywho, I guess that's how the world turns.
It's still a good idea. And I guess the Red Cross has a weird way of working
Oh, too bad I don't have a Facebook.
Where is the proof this is actually real?

Yeah, I also don't have a Facebook, but I probably care more than the guy I quoted.
I liked it <3

I was thinking the same thing. George Carlin, perhaps?

Doesn't sound like George Carlin to me. I dunno, though.

Indeed, this guy could just be sucking money off people who he made believe it's going to contribute to disasters like this.
But then either way 1$ isn't much. Then again it becomes alot if 1000+ people go along with it.
more like sucking likes on facebook. there's no money in this scheme for him as far as i can tell
-snip-
why dont they just send japan their money instead of trying to get attention from this
seriously what the fuck, 50 men in japan, the ones who're trying to contain the powerplant have said goodbye to their familys due to the huge rate of radiation.
This is a bad idea, although the thought is there. When the Haiti Earthquake hit, I was quick to set up a facebook group, not page, just like this, not realizing the implications. I had it as for every 10 people that join, I will donate 50 cents to the effort.
Needless to say, in two weeks my group had amassed to over 25,000 people, and I was worried. I didn't have that much to donate, so I decided to tell the group this and donated only the amount I could.
While the thought and emotion is there, I urge you to tell them to find an alternative to this.
The Red Cross is donating. They have lots of dollars.

True enough, I didn't read it thoroughly enough.
But these groups usually turn into millions within days. Also there are thousands of them, how do we know that this one actually donates anything?

They already are. You should watch the news.
wat the shit, sure this is real lol, look at the pretty boy who made it.
Yes. Shove a pot of gold up your ass and fart rainbows and this will happen.
Also, the $1 will literally come from your ass.
I think they do it as a way for people who like the page to have a feeling of actually helping. Either way, I liked the page.
These things never do what they say they do. I'm not liking a random page.
Plus this is not even close to how the Red Cross works. They don't do shit like wasting time and effort trying to get a bunch of people to "Like" a Facebook page. They don't need a number of "Likes" to tell them how much money to donate. They just coordinate and give supplies and man-power based on what they feel is necessary, and 9.9 times out of 10, they do a pretty fucking amazing job at it.
Whoever made this Facebook page is just an egocentric jerk taking advantage of a huge natural disaster to put his name out there, making it look like he cares but in reality he thinks it's going to make him more popular. It's what every jerk thinks when they make a page like this.

Who cares if that's what it is? It's still something worth showing your concern for. Regardless of whether money goes to Japan because of this or not, I for one think it's worthy to like a page showing support for a major disaster, even if the page was just created for attention.
"Yeah, we'll donate!"
"But first you gotta do this."
Help me fill my wallet-I mean help Japan.
I like the disaster in Japan.
Something is wrong with that sentence.

Facebook is a government conspiracy, anyway. They started using it after the Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional to put tracking chips on the tips of our penises at birth.
