Please name the best and the most historically accurate Vietnam War movies.
Apocalypse now Full Metal Jacket Platoon [editline]h[/editline] We Were Soldiers (once and young) The Deer Hunter The Odd Angry Shot
MASH
MASH
That's the Korean War, silly
Full Metal Jacket and Platoon are considered the best movies, in as far as being an "accurate" depiction. A lesser known, but still excellent film, would be "the odd angry shot" which is an Australian film following a Australian SAS patrol in Vietnam. Apocalypse now is much less realistic than the above films, but not in a bad way. Apocalypse now to me is sort of a lucid LSD fueled nightmare set in a background that happens to be the vietnam war. But it's very good, and the redux cut is absolutely one of my favorite films. We were soldiers is more or less historically accurate, but it makes me puke from all the overly dramatic pro-patriotism bullshit. None the less, a pretty good film. Rescue Dawn is based on the true accounts of an American pilot shot down in the opening throes of the vietnam conflict. A very, very good film.

The Odd Angry Shot is really good and interesting
Good Morning Vietnam
A little searching goes a long way. http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1093106?highlight=vietnam
Obligatory Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse Now: Redux, and Platoon. Also, We Were Soldiers is pretty good.
It was about both if you read into it
It's anti-war in general, especially against the Vietnam War because it was still going on when the show started, but it is placed completely in the Korean War. There may be allegories here and there but I don't think that's what OP is looking for. I do agree with everyone else though, Apocalypse Now is a brilliant piece of work.
I recently watched The Siege of Firebase Gloria and I'd say it's a pretty good vietnam war movie. It has R. Lee Ermey in it.
Jacob's Ladder. Yeah okay, it's not really a Vietnam movie, but it does have something to do with it.
Fuck you all for not listing Hamburger Hill.
The Deer Hunter
Apocalypse now
Redux
Fuck you all for not listing Hamburger Hill.
From what I've heard it's a bit more or less censured, is this utter bullshit?
I don't recall there being any censorship in Hamburger Hill. Hell, it's up there with Platoon and The Deer Hunter as being two movies that my dad(who was a Vietnam vet) couldn't stand to watch because they brought back too many terrible memories.
This list here might help ya OP. http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1093106?highlight=
Jacobs Ladder is good.
Tropic Thunder
Does Tropic Thunder really classive as a WAR movie? well it is damn awsome, I'll give you that. It's got more to do with Vietnam than Jacob's Ladder though.
Apocalypse now Full Metal Jacket Platoon
Apocalypse now is sort of different. Wouldn't call that a historically accurate nam movie. Not saying it's bad, its damn triffic', seen it plenty times, but it's sorta nightmare, gets more and more unrealistic eventually, rather a nightmare than historically accurate.

Also just saw the documentary to it. The severed heads are actually real people buried to their neck in the ground. :v:
From what I've heard it's a bit more or less censured, is this utter bullshit?
censored? in what ways do you mean?
Apocalypse Now is simply Heart of Darkness set in another place(Vietnam). It has about as much historically accurate things to say about Vietnam as Independence Day has to say about Area 51.
The Deer Hunter is my favourite, even if the war itself only takes up the middle section. One of the most moving films I've seen.

Just because Marlon Brando wasn't actually an insane maniac in the jungle, doesn't mean it wasn't that crazy out there.
If you can handle Michael J Fox as a character other than Marty McFly Casualties of War is pretty good
censored? in what ways do you mean?
Not litterally censored but they don't show people shooting eachother and getting killed, but disregard it.
