The state-run IRNA news service said Iran launched a small weather satellite into orbit early Feb. 3 on its Safir rocket, the Associated Press reports.
IRNA said the Iranian-made Navid, or Gospel, satellite weighs 50 kilograms and is expected to remain in orbit for about two months. It is designed to collect data on weather conditions and monitor for natural disasters, the news service said.
Iran’s decade-old space program has raised concerns in Israel and the West because of its possible military applications: The same technology that allows missiles to launch satellites can be used to fire warheads. IRNA said the Safir launcher has 20 percent more launch power than its earlier satellite carrier missiles.

Congrats Iran, somehow FOX News turned this into a conspiracy theory.
Shame they're going to get bombed back into the stone age over a few barrels of oil.
That's pretty cool

Well, It's no secret that space programs are used as a guise for military ICBM research in a developing nation. The US and Russia both did it with the space race. I don't feel like it's that big of a deal though because Iran would have nothing to gain from attacking anyone.
The Western world totally misunderstands the situation, they are only launching fireworks in celebration of ALLAH.

The indignant hamsters want some action.

Hahahaha wow
I can already see which excuse is next should Iran ever abandon their nuclear program
Why are people rating this winner again?
Why are people rating this winner again?
Because a nation is developing out of the stone age?
Yet they'll lock your ass up for being gay
More likely it's a satellite designed to observe things.
Yet they'll lock your ass up for being gay
Progress is slow, sadly. Theres still people in the US that want to do stuff like that.
Because a nation is developing out of the stone age?
Concrete is pretty much the #1 used resource in developed nations, take what its worth.
Will it bring a message of peace to the world?
Theres still people in the US that want to do stuff like that.
There are all over the world. It's unavoidable.
But there's one little bit discretion to be made between us (practically all developed, modern nations in the Western Hemisphere actually) and them that has huge implications for how our societies function and makes us very different from one another: our system of government, our laws, and our decreed rights are not based upon theocratic and authoritarian principles stooped in religious zealotry.
A large number of Iranians are not happy that this is the case with their country, either. It's really very sad to look at the number of people who desire change there but can do nothing to instigate it. At least the riots they had back in 2009 and 2010 over the presidential election results showed the regime that, if they intend to stay in power in the future, they need to treat their people better. And they have loosened up some insofar as what people are allowed to wear, buy, etc.
Why are people rating this winner again?
Because Middle-Eastern countries are generalised as not being as technologically advanced as countries like the US. So this is an achievement for them, until they are bombed to high-heaven.

because we have so many rights, i mean just look at the occupy mov- well..
atleast we have a working democracy that isn't run by assholes only looking out for them- well..
atleast we can vote for the person leading our coun- well..
atleast our presidential race isn't used by rich assholes to sell a boo- well..
atleast we aren't sending troops into other countries to gain more mon- well..
just because we're not being killed in the streets doesn't mean everything's perfectly fine, and it especially doesn't mean we have any right to say what other countries can and can't do
Why are people rating this winner again?
I like to believe every time a peaceful advancement is made in an adversarial country, the odds of war are lowered.
because we have so many rights, i mean just look at the occupy mov- well..
What about them? They're still protesting.
Or am I missing something here? Did the secret police round a bunch of them up in the middle of the night, take them to political prisons, then torture and execute them for crimes against the state?
atleast we have a working democracy that isn't run by assholes only looking out for them- well..
Yeah. I mean it's not like we have any good politicians at all who are decent, honest, hard-working folks. Sweeping generalizations about them are totally correct and justified.
Bernie Sanders? Corrupt Commie! Al Franken? Thieving corporate stooge! Jeff Flake? A no-good homosexual-loving liberal pretending to be a Republican!
atleast we can vote for the person leading our coun- well..
Yeah, actually, we can.
atleast our presidential race isn't used by rich assholes to sell a boo- well..
Again with the generalizations.
atleast we aren't sending troops into other countries to gain more mon- well..
Well with President Obama's recent decision to cut troop levels by 100,000 members and the withdrawal of all American forces from Iraq and planned withdrawal from Afghanistan next year, not to mention all the budget cuts the Department of Defense is facing, it's funny you'd say that.
just because we're not being killed in the streets doesn't mean everything's perfectly fine, and it especially doesn't mean we have any right to say what other countries can and can't do
Exactly right. Good thing I never said anything contrary to this anywhere in my post.
Yeah, actually, we can.
Well technically we vote for people to vote for president for us, because for some reason we still use the outdated electoral college system.
What about them? They're still protesting.

are you kidding me, have you bothered to watch the news and see what kind of shit most of them go through
except it's not a generalization, it's a fact, the majority of politicians are bought out
no we don't, we use an electoral college system
once again it's a fact, people like Trump, Bachmann, and Cain had no reason to run because they're fucking idiots and the only thing they accomplished was getting some publicity for their shitty books
planned troop withdrawal =/= actually withdrawal, we have troops in more countries than just Afghanistan; not to mention the insane warmongering going on with Iran
Why are people rating this winner again?
Because space
That's North Korea.
He's referencing the fact that NK used a commercial satellite as a platform for an EMP weapon in that game.
Because space
Oh, ok.
Fair enough.
Yep, though it could launch a warhead, its only a damn satillite, though im kindof afraid the irans are taking a page from Anthony Horowitz.
[sp]Alex Rider in Ark Angel, some billionare plans to destroy the pentagon by using his space hotel as a improvised missle, the Iranians may try the same thing with their satillite and the White House or Jerusalem. [/sp]
Though thats only a small conspiracy theory and nothing else, otherwise, there is no need for alarm.
