Police have arrested a teenage boy and girl in northern Morocco for posting a photo on Facebook of them kissing.
The action has provoked a slew of copycats in protest at their detention, a rights organisation has said.
Chakib al Khayari, president of the Rif Association of Human Rights, said: "It involves a teenage boy and his girlfriend. They were arrested on Thursday for violating public decency by posting a photo of them kissing in the northeastern town of Nador."
The photograph was taken outside the high school where the two are students.

Well I'm taking Morocco off my list of potential honeymoon locations.
How fucking backwards does your country have to be for kissing to be considered obscene in public

A lot of Muslim nations + India are like that. Most forms of pda are forbidden.
What irks me is, this wasn't pda since it was on Facebook, not outside somewhere. I'd understand if they were caught while outside kissing as they were, but since they weren't I'd assume they were in somewhere private and probably would have never been found out if it weren't for the photograph reaching some kind of law enforcement.

I highly doubt that they would enforce this law against tourists since a fairly large part of their economy comes from tourism.
I'm sure that it would still be a safe honeymoon location.

That's rather a double standard then, foreigners can 'break' the law free of punishment but your own citizens can't?
I think the worse part about this is the arrest. Couldn't something so harmless as a kiss just get a fine and drop it after that?

Yep, its sad, but there are many cases of countries giving special privileges to tourists since so many countries are dependent on the act of tourism due to a lack of resources, industry, etc.
In that case, I'd cross Morocco off just because of the dumb double-standard.
Italy is more lovely, anyway.

Your avatar is so fitting.
For those that don't know that's the leader of Morocco in Civ V.

Ha, I just changed it a little more than a day ago so I didn't realise how fitting it would be at the time.

It's kind of common sense to scrap Arab countries off of that list.
Morocco always struck me as an African version of Spain, not some place that's totally insane

Before the Arab Spring, I would have loved to visit Cairo and the rest of Egypt.

Even before that. There's always asterisks on locations and such.

We love honeymooners over here. And 100% less vaccines required.

Was actually planning on going to Morocco next year funnily enough, I never really knew much about the country. I guess it's to Italy, then!

What the fuck im Moroccan, i go there every 2 years. This never happens and I see people kiss publicly all the time. Hell we do that spanish kissing cheeks thing in our culture.
I mean Morocco aint the most liberal country in the world but it is certainly one of the best arab countries you can go to atm.

Dont hate us :(
Honestly everybody over reacting you see one bad thing about Morocco and everybody demonizes it even though moroccans are against it. This is like crossing out America because of the government shutdown.

It shouldnt even get a fine. The fact that they even cared that two people mouths touched is ridiculous.

To be fair, the government shutdown did shut down national parks and all that, so crossing off America would make more sense :v:

Mostly just meant it because of the proximity
