I imagine a lot of the internet has at least heard of this, even if you weren't lucky/unfortunate enough to be a part of it (I was and it was a nightmare)
But it's actually really interesting and a neat story and I think people will enjoy hearing more about it. So enjoy.
scott manley put a lot of effort into this video
It's a fantastic video and a very good summary of the events.
It's also important to note, for people that have not played EVE Online, that hearing a story like this is a bit like looking at a beautiful tapestry, whereas actually playing EVE Online is more like stitching the tapestry together in an underage sweatshop in 110° weather.
That was pretty epic. Some Sengoku Jidai levels of betrayal and miracles right here. Not to mention the last stands.
EVE online's greatest battle is still about as exciting as an idle server in Team Fortress 2.
It's a shame, then, that for all the coolness of EVE online it's losing members readily.

If you want crazy levels of infiltration and sabotage, this is an excellent read:

This is why I love the idea of MMO wars. Its also why I'm sad Planetside 2 never took off (because it wasn't that great) because it had a lot of potential for cool stories like this.
Didn't Goonsquad fall apart after this?
"Mittani gets people to act like he acts in real life in a game, yet another retelling of"
yawn.
Mittani is an asshole. I've seen the shit he's done.

So this project is gonna be a scam or Goonsquad propaganda?
Trusting anybody from SA with money always seems to be a bad idea.
Mittani really is pulling out all the stops to shill this book project. 150k to fund a book that's only speaking to a select few fleet commanders from the goon side.
Not to mention an example chapter got released recently and it was cringingly bad.
To be honest, and i will be shit on for this, Eve online is the most boring peice of shit game i have ever played, and thats saying something in my book, i've played plenty of games exactly like this "Hell i have a fucking server emulation for the game called EVEMU (Eve Emulation) And yet i still find this game boring.

Another child left behind.
This makes me want to get back into EVE. I wonder if there's a market for streaming it?

Who's Mittani? Leader of Goonsquad? If so, then why is he an asshole?

Seems like you already have the answer.

The only point in playing EVE anymore is to join a corporation and hoping to get some action. Battles can be pretty fun but if you were like me and you were in a corporation ran by a literal sociopath you would find yourself quitting 2 months later.
You're also gonna have to fork up some money after your 1 month trial (if you choose to go that route) if you plan on playing anymore than that because it is very, very difficult to get enough isk (the in-game currency) to purchase 1 PLEX (1 month's subscription) in the time you have.

thats the premise, yes. Nullsec warfare can be boring as fuck, but some parts of nullsec operations are a lot of fun. Black Ops work was my favorite- certain battleships could fling stealth bombers around and make them do mini jumps across large swathes of space instantly. You'd do this by sending a ship with a beacon behind enemy lines, lighting it, then calling in the bombers. Bombers would scatter, since lighting the beacon makes you warpable and everyone can see you. It was intense trying to bridge, then warp, then hide for a bit and plan the next move.
Bombers required a bit of finesse too- the actual bombs were manually launched and detonated after a set range. No fuse for prox or impact. It was common for most people doing their first bombing run to blow themselves up with said bomb. Sneaking into enemy territory and trying to maraud, raise hell, and blow shit up all without getting caught or detonated yourself was always a rush though and tons of fun. Legitimately could consistently get my blood pumping- I remember I once managed to pop 6-7 destroyers right as they warped in-system with a bomb last time I did it. That was fucking awesome.
Lowsec gang warfare is also a pile of fun, and so is solo hunting. Lowsec work with my old corpmates was some of my favorite stuff I ever did in social gaming- essentially an excuse to get drunk, chill with some friends, and shoot at shit. Wasn't expensive either and no nullsec blobbing. Solo hunting in my Stratios was fun because I could eye this sexy ship model the whole time and kill people who thought they could take me on. Winning 3v1 fights was common. Gecko drones are op, kids.
I did it all in EvE. I had a dedicated miner character, but that got boring. So I got a freighter and started doing regional hauling to make tons of money. I loved buying ships, so I would find wherever I could get ships the cheapest and then I'd haul them to a hub to sell them. or ply the trade routes between hubs. It wasn't exciting, but it was satisfying and a fun thing to do in the background while working on HW. The most exciting that could get was retrieving battleships from lowsec- people would often put battleships up on the market for prices 60-70% below market value since they were hard to sneak out. They were usually special faction or pirate ships, too. I'd do my best to get them out with a character made for this, and would earn tremendous profits doing so. All of this was how I paid for my accounts.
Eventually I became one of the officers of my corps industry division, and it turned into a job real quick. I got bored at that point, and the fleet commander I loved the most (all the homo mstenger) left to go do srs navy shit. The whiny prat put back in charge was a complete highsec carebear who I heard crying on comms when he lost his mission ship. Also, I heard him sorta hint about tossing his kid or wife around a bit. Fucking prick. So I left, but parts of that great corp still soldier on. Solomon was around for a while, that was fun. I think I recruited them by harassing them with a battleship 100+ times larger than what they were flying at the time.
I still remember a lot of stories that are more specific, but EvE is such a social game that it is entirely defined by who you are around. The people you surround yourself with in that game make or break it. The thing about EvE though is that if said people are breaking the experience for you, you can fuck them over. By stealing everything. Or planting seeds of rebellion. Or framing people. Or giving intel to the enemy. I never felt that way about any of my corpmates (excepting that one shithead).
But still, its wonderful.

You're not going to be shit on for having the majority opinion.

Its an artifact of CCP having a really shit new player experience, and not enough being done to inform players of how to get into player groups. That and a fair amount of player groups that exploit newbies- thats one of the unwritten rules of EvE. Fuck over your corpmates, burn an empire to the ground, gleefully harvest vats of tears from industrial guys, but don't ever fuck over a new player.

yet it still happens and it really sours the fun for a lot of people

He gave out in-game contact details for a player he knew to be depressed, and encouraged the EVE playerbase to harass him into suicide.

One, I was in nullsec and played for 5 years up to july this year, when i found it boring, 2. I also was in a guild with a titan so no, I was not a miner. Thanks for assuming tho.

You played it for five years, and only after 5 years realized it was boring to you?

Eh, i had friends who would play with me everyday, when you don't have friends to play with, is the day that it gets boring because you have no one that has anything in common with you.
