I'm doing up a computer for an old friends, he barely know's how to work it and it's so full of toolbars and shit that it is like trying to compute through mud.
So first things first. Flat reinstall. He has Windows Vista. Not great but that's what he's used to. So formatted the drive, when the install finished and it came to first log in, the computer did a cold reboot and proceeded to hang on the "Verifying DMI data" part.
I've tried it with my spare copy of 7 but it does exactly the same. I googled the problem and it seems that others have had it. Tried reinstalling, tried a different hdd, tried reverting BIOS back to defaults. I probably have to flash it but I'll be fucked if I can find any documentation on where to find the jumper on the board.
What was supposed to be a simple Format & reinstall has become a real pain in the ass that is going to cause me a lot of hassle if I can't bring it back to him tomorrow.
Any thoughts?

Update:Tried clearing the CMOS. No change. Will boot from a CD just fine. HDDs just fuck up.
Linux installs and boots. Which leads me to think it's a boot sector error. Starting to get confused now, What the shit?
