NVIDIA has determined that the battery in these tablets can overheat and pose a fire hazard. NVIDIA is asking customers to visit http://www.nvidia.com/support/tabletrecall for information on how to obtain a replacement device.
Well then, now to be doing this shit, since my tablet was getting hot before, not even doing shit on it.
As much as I like my shield this is fucking stupid, first the plastic of the tablet's frame, now the battery. I thought I dodged a bullet with the faulty first batches but I guess not, I just hope this is the final revision and I don't have to send my new one in again.

Note this doesn't affect every single model, just ones with a particular type of battery. Link below shows how to check. http://tabletrecall.expertproductinquiry.com/registration/registra
I thought that feature was patented by apple.
the whole "nVidia burns hotter than Hitler's hate of the Jews" joke really isn't going away anytime soon is it.
Considering this thing sits next to my fucking face at night I'm kinda glad to get the heads up.
Mine is part of the recall. You don't have to send back the old one, but they'll activate some sort of killswitch on the old one- when the new one is powered on. I'm hoping somebody will find a way around it- but I'm guessing just flashing CM on the old tablet would prevent it.

Counties that have tighter laws dictating recalls will do as you said.
Bummer. I was hoping I'd get to dissect my old one.
Amazon just contacted me over my Shield, I'll take a NANDroid backup, install the official ROM go through with the recall process and flash my old image back. I'd like to think that Nvidia put the lockout code inside the operating system, not the bootloader. I should be able to replace the battery myself and get a second tablet for free.
Well how would the bootloader kill switch be activated? It shouldn't have any data connection right, no WiFi or such so, I can't see how it could be deactivated.
If they wanted to do it properly, they would have an OS component flip a killswitch in the firmware. But you are right, its unlikely that the bootloader can do this on its own.
Hm yeah I suppose it could be done in one of NVidia's blobs, well, I guess we'll see, there seem to be a fair few people wanting to do what you intend to.
i was wondering why my shield was getting hot, well at least i get a new shield which will be nice
