I'm needing to upgrade the graphics card on my second gaming system/media center, currently stuck with the shitty Nvidia 9400GT I received as a gift. My budget is $100, how much of a step up would a HD 4850 be? Seems to be more reasonably priced than any alternative I've seen yet. Any help is greatly appreciated. System is running at 1600x1200. I'm in the United States.
From what I've seen in terms of benchmarks, about a 600% increase in performance is to be expected.
pretty fuckin' big
but GPU isn't everything, post your system specs including power supply
if its an SLI mobo could pick up 2 of them $45 8800gt's

Specs are fine, including the PSU. I'm well off in terms of knowledge with hardware, but I'm not familiar with what cards to get in this price range. Plenty of clearance in the case for a large card, full tower, and if it's necessary I can always cut the hard drive cage a bit with my pneumatic saw.

Not an SLI board, and no.
PSU is a modular 500 watt Ultra.
4 gig of ram
Phenom 9600 Quad
250 gig hard drive
I'll never get over what I piece of shit the 9400GT is though, can't even max counter strike source out at 1200x1024.
Yeah the 4850 is a bitchin' card for low budgets. This one is only $95.
Seems perfect to me, gonna go ahead and place an order. Thanks.
