With Christopher Nolan declaring himself out of the running for "Justice League," Warner Bros. has approached another of its go-to directors in Ben Affleck, who's expected to discuss the project with studio brass in the coming days, multiple sources tell Variety.
Since guiding WB's "The Town" to commercial success and critical acclaim from both sides of the camera, Affleck has ascended high on the studio's list of filmmakers who can be trusted with prime properties. Thus far, Affleck is the only candidate who's been sent Will Beall's "Justice League" script, which the "Gangster Squad" scribe was hired to write last summer. Affleck is expected to enter discussion with the studio higher-ups within the next few days.
DC Comics' answer to Marvel's "The Avengers", "Justice League" is expected to bring together marquee characters Batman and Superman, as well as Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and The Flash. Affleck has made it clear that going forward, he's only interested in directing films in which he also stars -- "The Town" and "Argo" are proof of that -- so its likely that if this pairing ever came to fruition, he would likely don a suit of his own. DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. and Affleck's reps declined to comment.
Warner Bros. took control of DC Comics in 2009, folding the comicbook company into the studio and re-launching it as DC Entertainment to better manage how its characters wind up on the big and small screens. The CW will air "Arrow," based on the Green Arrow character this fall, but the studio hasn't greenlit any new films since "Man of Steel," which bows summer 2013. Other pics based on Wonder Woman and the Flash also are in development, but are only in script stages.
Warners' plans for "Justice League" are still unclear, but accordingly to relatively recent intel, it seems that they're planning a stand-alone project, rather than taking taking the Marvel route of consolidating its existing hero roster. "Man Of Steel" director Zack Snyder said last year that his and Henry Cavill's version of Superman would not play any part in a JLA movie.
"Justice League" won't likely be ready for release until summer 2015, which could put it up right against Marvel's "Avengers 2," which has Joss Whedon returning to helm.

I've yet to see a wonder women movie.
He directed The Town? I didn't know that. I'm ok with this.
Hmmm I dunno. The Avengers worked so well because they built hype and familiarity with successive individual movies, before bringing them all together. Also they had super nerd Joss Whedon directing.
I guess this means Matt Damon is confirmed for being in this film then.
Why are all the american blockbusters based on comics books. did hollywood really run out of ideas.
I can see him as a great Flash
I'm fucking Ben Affleck
Affleck is a pretty good action director. The Town was a pretty awesome movie.
I'm fucking Ben Affleck
Like you are Ben Affleck, or you're banging Ben Affleck?

why the fucking fuck are his arms so goddamn tiny
Affleck's a way better director than an actor. This could be great.
Gone Baby Gone and The Town were amazing
affleck can't act for the life of him but he's a pretty competent director
idk if he's suited for the helm of a superhero flick tho
oh well it's p guaranteed the justice league movie is going to be shit anyway so w/e
Like you are Ben Affleck, or you're banging Ben Affleck?
Why not both?
I like Affleck. He could do a great job.
We need the writers from the Justice League cartoon to be doing the movie, the TV series was super.
I hope they use a grey Batsuit for this movie. Batman hasn't been in grey since Adam West's time.
I like Ben Affleck as a director, but I'm worried how is he gonna make a summer blockbuster.
I guess he will take that grim-realistic Nolan's way, that's good.
Matt Damon as Batman hopefully!!!
I hope it's as good as the cartoon

I bet his younger brother will be Aquaman or something
Hmmm I dunno. The Avengers worked so well because they built hype and familiarity with successive individual movies, before bringing them all together. Also they had super nerd Joss Whedon directing.
And he wrote the Avengers
Why are all the american blockbusters based on comics books. did hollywood really run out of ideas.
better than adaptations of dumb 15 minutes of fame teen novels
Couldn't give less of a shit who the director is, not so sure how I feel about a Justice League movie. I just can't see those individual characters being pulled off in a big movie starring all of them as well as The Avengers did.
yeah don't count on it http://www.deadline.com/2012/08/ben-affleck-on-justice-league-his-camp-says-no/
And he wrote the Avengers
Yeah and he'll be doing the same for avengers 2.
also this movie fell through once before when they were just about to start filming, I hope it does so again, but not at such an awful time. That's so fucked that all those guys spent so long getting ready to make it and then it just fell apart right as they were about to start (they literally had a script and a cast assembled), but it really is a bad idea to execute it so fucking suddenly like this. Avengers got it right, but this is just wrong. Idk, i just think it would just feel so rushed.
I hope it's as good as the cartoon
when has that ever happened, for any comic book? The animated series are always far superior, well at least the 90's-00's ones
Ben Affleck as Wally West? I could see it.
Eh, I don't think he'd be able to, nor do I think the studio would be able to get the character clash of Batman and Superman correct let alone the other personalities they have to contend with. The Avengers is more suited for a film like that then Justice League I think, the personalities and characters are a better play off each other than most of the ones in the JLA. It's still great stuff, but I think movie wise, Avengers is just a special kind of thing that won't really get topped for a long time(for what it is).
bring together marquee characters Batman and Superman
How would this even work [sp]after the TDKR ending?[/sp]
