Donald Trump Says Same-Sex Marriage Is 'Settled' Law
Republican President-elect Donald Trump said he’s “fine” with same-sex marriage as the law of the land, calling the issue "settled" by the Supreme Court.
The comments – in his first television interview since winning the presidency – sharply contrast with his party’s orthodoxy, his running mate’s longtime position and comments the New York Republican made during the primary.
“It’s law,” he said in an interview with CBS’ ‘60 Minutes’ that aired Sunday. “It was settled in the Supreme Court. I mean it’s done.”
“These cases have gone to the Supreme Court. They’ve been settled. And I’m – I’m fine with that,” he added.
So what happened to all the doomsaying that made it seem like Trump/Pence would set up gulags for gay people?

"Untrustworthy man says thing, people believe him"
After the 4 years go by and no ones rights have been trampled on, then I'll believe it.
BUT but, TRUMP IS THE ANTICHRIST!

Well it fits in with his agenda to empower rule of law
I wanna see the full interview already. Why do they keep teasing us with 2 minute bits?
edit: nevermind I found the full one

Gay marriage was just step towards LGBT equality.
The risk never was that he'd take marriage away, even if it just tore at his soul that gays are marrying, it's too unfeasible to do it within one term at this point, especially with the populace largely in support of it. The danger to LGBT people is other issues such as whether discrimination (housing, work, etc.) will be legal or not, transgender people in bathrooms, etc..
This doesn't mean that LGBT people have to stop worrying. The only time I will stop worrying is when nothing happens in 4 years and Trump and his VP are out of the white house.

He's not even in office yet, it's extremely preemptive to be declaring that the fears were overblown.

In all fairness, That's likely the impression Trump was hoping to make in order to garner support from conservatives. I mean the guy picked a vice president whose entire claim to fame is discriminating against homosexuals, even if doing so adversely effected his entire state.
Besides it goes without saying that I don't trust a word that comes out of Donald Trump's mouth lmao. If he manages to go 4 years without screwing over LGBT people at all then I will be very glad I was wrong.
Well he's never been explicitly against LGBT, but he's flip flopped on same-sex marriage just as much as Hillary and many other politicians did. Seems like a step in the right direction in order to quell the hysteria and fear mongering going on right now. What he'll actually end up doing remains to be seen.
Well, this echoes a similar stance he made earlier, and he's also made similar comments on passing saying that it's a "dead issue" since the supreme court ruled on it.
Half of you are either fools or fearmongers. "I'll believe it in four years." No, yeah, because the President can just, at will, overturn decisions made by the Supreme Court.
Ok.
He could probably find other ways to shit on LGBT people if he wanted to. Whether he wants to or not has yet to be seen.
Ok?
Yeah despite the fact that he stood up at the fucking Republican convention and said he supports defending LGBTQ rights when the majority of his voter base disagrees with that sentiment.
I'll make sure to keep my eyes open for Trump's gay death camp down the street, thanks.
Politicians say those things
With the people he works and associates with, and his very mixed messages, people are right to be concerned.
One important thing I mentioned is that you can still be discriminated against based on sexuality, does Trump allow that to happen, or does he put an end to the discrimination? Will trans people be forced into the bathroom that corresponds with their birth sex? Who knows! Trump has flip flopped on that issue too.
Yeah despite the fact that he stood up at the fucking Republican convention and said he supports defending LGBTQ rights when the majority of his voter base disagrees with that sentiment.
I too believe everything that comes out of Donald Trumps mouth lol.

Oh sorry I didn't realize you were 5 years old I'll be more careful.

stupid sjws afraid of death camps amirite
Pence is the problem there, he's a firm believer in gay conversion therapy, which isn't just some therapy jam with a psychiatrist while you lay back on a couch. It's being forcibly sent by your family (this is pretty exclusively a teen program) to a bible camp kinda deal full of vindictive asshole counselors who demean and break you with the goal of making you loathe yourself for being gay, so you'll stop being gay. In other cases it involves being taken to specialty locations for shock therapy sessions, which surprise surprise are not implemented by real medical or psychiatric professionals. The only thing it really does is instill fear of opening up to anybody and deep fucking self hatred and depression, they pretend to be ~saved~ to stop the abuse and go home, then they spend however long after that playing nice for their family, since they're fucking terrified of slipping up around them which could result in them getting sent back. These programs are often a huge contributor to suicidal tendencies in those subjected to them, both during and for a long time after the ordeal
Whether pence will have much say in anything around this domain is yet to be seen, but for an asshole who caused an aids outbreak (and only said "I'll pray for them" when asked about it), I think we'll all keep bracing for some garbage
with all of the "OH SUDDENLY TRUMP IS SAYING SOME COOL LIBERAL-FRIENDLY SHIT TOO" news in the past few days I'm afraid he may just pulling more salesman pandering. He already sold himself to the extreme right and got their votes, now he can open up about some lefty views and start to settle the unrest and gain some benefit of the doubt. If he can sate the rage of the blue votes there'll be less pressure on the elecs who can vote against their state's popular vote to go blue to spite him in december. There's no doubt there will be another wave of "oh he changed his mind" news if/when those votes are secured

Trump has been denouncing it for 16 years, and you're surprised people think he's against it?
Jesus Christ it's like you people believe nobody can argue against Donald Trump because he might suddenly flip-flop.
Half of you are either fools or fearmongers. "I'll believe it in four years." No, yeah, because the President can just, at will, overturn decisions made by the Supreme Court.

I mean he explicitly said he'd get justices who he thought would overturn roe v wade so it's not like him picking justices that would undo progressive policy was off the table.
Yeah despite the fact that he stood up at the fucking Republican convention and said he supports defending LGBTQ rights when the majority of his voter base disagrees with that sentiment.

no one has ever said trump is like that, but mike pence, his vp, who trump said would be one of the most powerful vp's ever, hates lgbt with a passion. he could say one thing and do another.
Stop being stupid people. Be tactful with your posts or get a ban.
People who worry that a conservative government could step on them when the Vice President is staunchly anti-gay are clearly just worried about Nazi gay death camps.
Apparently being concerned over a staunchly anti-gay Vice President is just fearmongering foolishness and not common sense or something. Why wouldn't people be worried about that?
WHAT IF his entire campaign soapbox was complete horseshit and now he's slowly going to revert to center-right politics because he's been elected and no one can say shit?

Frankly you come off as hysterical and condescending.
Trump's not gonna fucking come after you

not to mention pence has been shut down by his own party lol

It's foolish to trust a man who has repeatedly lied to us, the entire country, again and again. His word means fucking nothing, and not being prepared for the distinct possibility that he will try to trample on the rights of others is grade-A retardation.
His VP is staunchly against LGBT rights and always has been, his transition team is made up of people who are guilty of everything from discriminating against the LGBT community to climate change denial.
[editline]14 November 2016[/editline]
Do not trust Trump. He's a proven liar. Do not trust people who say that there's nothing to worry about either. They're either supporters of his and have obvious motivations for defending him, or they just genuinely don't know any better than to trust a liar. Or they just want to appear oh-so "enlightened" over everybody else and act like they know something that we don't. Whatever the case, their mentality is wrong.
He could probably find other ways to shit on LGBT people if he wanted to. Whether he wants to or not has yet to be seen.

None of that shit would get past. There would be full blown riots if they even thought about messing with the LGBT community.

I do look down on people stupid enough to think that what people are concerned about are death camps. That's just pure idiocy.
And no, since I live half way across the globe, I imagine he's not going to. Dunno what you were getting at there, but I'm rightly concerned about my friends in the US who could be hurt by his leadership.
