Obama: "Marijuana is no more dangerous than alcohol"
Marijuana, which is still placed in the same category as heroin, ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms by the federal government, is no more dangerous than alcohol, President Barack Obama said in an interview published Sunday.
Speaking to New Yorker editor David Remnick, Obama said he still viewed pot smoking negatively – but that on the whole, the drug wasn’t the social ill that it’s been viewed as in the past.
The sky is green.
weed is less dangerous I'd say and why isn't it legal? lol
serious ignorance if you think weed is as harmful as alcohol
alcohol is one of the most harmful recreational drugs. cannabis is one of the safest. hard to believe it's still illegal in a lot of places
-oh, sorry for stating my viewpoint, might as well just add to my box fort-
Not too excited over this considering he still sees it in a negative light. But, at least he's not that one lady that thinks it'll kill you instantly.
Marijuana is LESS* dangerous than alcohol.

Compare these two before you spout something off, Mr. President.
Marijuana doesn't kill you if you ingest too much of it, and it doesn't rot your liver either.
I didn't expect this.

I wouldn't say most harmful. But, definitely more harmful than marijuana.
Fuck, my merge. This thread is blowing up fast.
The only reason why alcohol is tolerated is because of the long history we have with it(socially accepted) and that there are huge companies behind it.
Same thing with ciggaretes, it is very nasty stuff.
Personally, it tastes disgusting(alcohol in general).

Guys, lets be honest here.
He doesn't really see it this badly. He was a fucking stoner in college.
He just doesn't want to start legalizing pot as the first black president of the United States most likely. And he has bigger issues to worry about.
If you guys seriously have the idea that he thinks this is a dangerous drug, no matter what he says publicly as president, you are an idiot.
We kinda knew already.
now on my facebook feed all of the stoners that have been ragging on obama since his reelection are going "OBAMAS COOL AGAIN"
Too much will cause brain damage though. "Too much" meaning "so much that you have a legitimate problem".
That's true for anything
haha what
Um, exactly that? Alcohol can make you physically dependent, can destroy the liver when taken in excess, is easy to over-consume before the effects are really felt, and is just terrible for you in general.
Pot can make you pass out or throw up when taken in extreme excess, but it won't kill you if you overdose, and it forms nearly no physical dependence. Psychological dependence is possible, but unlikely, and even if you consume it day in day out for years, if you don't smoke it, the worst that will happen is needing a lot more to get equally stoned.
Pot > all other forms of recreational drugs
I'm waiting for Rush Limbaugh's reaction.

one of the most. Yes, even compared to shit like heroin and cocaine. Do your research kiddos.
This is exactly my whole viewpoint on the issue. I disapprove of pot, but I disapprove of alcohol, too.
This is dumb how?
What is it with January 2014 and people finally becoming smart? Is it really just the whole New Years resolution thing kicking in, wherein people say "this year, I won't be a complete idiot and instead work towards the greater good of humanity"?
stoner rush in 3, 2, 1...

This doesn't matter. Obama is still a huge liar.
So Obongo is a socialist, a muslim AND a drug addict?
Next thing you know he'll be forcing children to trade away their guns in exchange for weed needles.
420 legalize it
This is dumb how?
People think you're dumb for disapproving of their chosen recreations? I dunno dude thought it'd be self-explanatory
It may not be as dangerous as drinking, but it sure can make you say some.......... odd things as if you were drunk. My brother smokes it and to name but one instance, after smoking went on a 3 hour lecture about the benefits of him genetically engineering a race of Cactus People.
420 legalize it
419.99 almost blaze it
(SORRY)

How does either effect you exactly?
I think the phrasing "no more dangerous than alcohol" was meant to mean less "it is as dangerous" and more "one is legal and the other is not and that isn't right."
Even if it isn't legalized in a widespread fashion during Obama's presidency, I'd at least like it to be re-classified so that it isn't a Schedule I. It should be a Schedule III or a Schedule IV, if only to reduce the legal repercussions of getting caught with it.
Getting caught with pot SHOULD be treated as a slap on the wrist and having the drugs confiscated. Instead it's punishable to the same extent that heroin could be punished for. That's fucked up.
alcohol is far worse than marijuana, (though i disapprove of both personally) for numerous reasons already mentioned, but beyond that, alcohol withdrawal (after a severe case of alcohol dependency) can cause permanent brain damage and brain death.
while not exactly the most common, mostly because the alcohol dependency has to be incredibly severe, its a very real possibility that you just dont have in the case of marijuana use
it should be legal, simple; while i may not personally value or condone it, i dont believe my opinion, (which is purely based on subjective preference) should have any say in whether it is legal or not.
