Hi, Im HTMLfreak (or if you know me by my other alias, Freelance)
Anyways, Lately i have really been getting into dubstep. (i do of course mean real dubstep, like the stuff on the Never Say Die show, not Skrillex). I've been seeing people around me also make dubstep, and since i need something new to occupy some of my time, learning to compose dubstep would be great. however though, now im stuck. the only tutorials i have seen is about wobbles, and i want to learn to do a bit more like a "Scratch" sound effect or making a sick drop. Does anyone wanna help me by showing me good places to learn to make this?
I currently have the latest version of FL studio along with the Massive plugin.
You probably have 8 year olds who come on here all the time, and think they can make something that sounds as good as the best people in an hour. Get annoyed when they can't and ragequit forever. Well just so everyone knows, i am not just another wannabe who thinks making dubstep is all about downloading some stuff to do it all for ya. So don't just put me down :D
What exactly do you mean by "a sick drop"?
Just look up YouTube tutorials on everything you need, and adjust their processes to suit the sound you're looking for. You're looking at years worth of effort before you can create exactly what you're looking for every time.
Get the Sylenth1 plugin for FL Studio. It has many cool presets that should help you get the effect you want.

Yeh, i appreciate that, it will take me YEARS to do anything as good and as fast as people like zedd, quba or ephixa
so its brostep you want to do, not dubstep?

Also, as Scyphozoa said, what you're looking to do is called "brostep". Stuff like Skrillex and that with the wobbles and drops is "brostep".
Brostep is a shit term. I just call it "dirty dubstep" or something like that.
And not everything with a wobble and a drop is brostep...

Anyway, if you're looking to make the more dirty kind of dubstep, Massive is a pretty essential VST to have. It's expensive as fuck but I suppose you could torrent it if you need to. Just look up some tutorials on YouTube for it. Don't just use the presets though because that's when you start to fall into generic crap territory.

"dirty dubstep" is the whole reason brostep even exists. Let's all be "dirtier". Brostep is a pretty good term to refer to the Skrillex generation of dubstep production where the emphasis is on "dirtiness".
If the emphasis is on dirtiness then call it dirty dubstep. It's a lot more self-explanatory than "brostep"
If the emphasis is on dirtiness then call it dirty dubstep. It's a lot more self-explanatory than "brostep"
But the "dirty" kind of dubstep is completely different. There's little to no bass, with the emphasis on mid-range frequencies, and traditional dubstep is focused on the bass. I think the idea of "brostep" is to regard the new wave of "dirty" dubstep tracks as a seperate thing from traditional bass-focused dubstep. Which it should be, they're entirely different.
brostep to me is just DNB with heavy influences from breakbeat and dubstep.
brostep to me is just DNB with heavy influences from breakbeat and dubstep.
I'd say that as since it takes traditional dubstep's kick snare pattern and combines it with DNB's mid-range growls, it deserves to be a seperate genre from dubstep.
well yeah, just like witch house, spawned its own genre from being influenced by others, as with the most genres...

Exactly, so people shouldn't say dirty dubstep when they mean brostep. I THINK that was my original point anyway, but who knows?
i never said something differnet
might have seemed like it though...

Well, I proved myself right anyway. I'm THAT good.

Nagh, The stuff im looking at isn't brostep, stuff like SkisM, Dubscout and Doge & Fuski is the stuff i listen to. That stuff is dubstep, but it still has drops and bass. Listen to Never say die and you'll see what i mean
The Black Sabbath track?
"I currently have Fruity Loops and NI Massive"
You mean like every single dubstep producer ever?
Just kidding, but don't limit yourself to things people say are good, try new things, try demos, then buy them if you think they're good.
Also get producing lessons from youtube they alway help.

I'd still call those guys "brostep".
But we're getting off topic.
use brutal electro for everything

This topic is shit anyway.
OP, there's so much to learn with music production that we can't really sit down and teach you everything you need to know. Look up tutorials, learn about techniques, try not to learn too much at once and don't be frustrated if it takes a while to get the desired sound.

Care to give me a few sites to look at or a few plugins to use?
just use youtube tutorials or somthing, that will show you visually what to do aswell.
Learn synthesis, here's a great series that will help you a lot. Also don't just start downloading a lot of VSTs, start with one synth (in your case Massive) and learn to master it, experiment and see what effect changing envelopes, filters,... has on your sound.
Also, isn't there a subforum dedicated to making music? I'm sure you'll get more help there.
Well, most likely i won't do anything massive (no pun intended) but don't go hating on this post, i can try and make something and if it fails, so what?
Also, don't hate on me cause im a noob as i see some people doing. Im pretty sure you didn't instantly make amazing music either...
