• FactCheck.org finds Democrats also guilty of bullshitting at convention

http://factcheck.org/2012/09/democratic-disinformation-from-charlotte/
We heard a number of dubious or misleading claims on the first night of the Democratic National Convention: • The keynote speaker and others claimed the Republican presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, would raise taxes on the “middle class.” He has promised he won’t. Democrats base their claim on a study that doesn’t necessarily lead to that conclusion. • The keynote speaker, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, also said there have been 4.5 million “new jobs” under Obama. The fact is the economy has regained only 4 million of the 4.3 million jobs lost since Obama took office. • Castro also insisted Romney and Ryan would “gut” Pell Grants for lower-income college students. Actually, the Ryan budget calls only for “limiting the growth” of spending for the program, and Ryan has said the maximum grant of $5,550 would not be decreased. • A Democratic governor said Romney “left his state 47th out of 50 in job growth.” Actually, Massachusetts went from 50th in job creation during Romney’s first year to 28th in his final year. • Two advocates of equal-pay legislation said women make 77 cents for every dollar men earn. That’s true on average, but the gap for women doing the same work as men is much less, and not entirely or even mostly the result of job discrimination. • A union president accused Romney of seeking “a government bailout” for “his company.” Not really. In fact, Romney negotiated a favorable but routine settlement with bank regulators on behalf of a former company, the one he had left to form his own Bain Capital firm. No taxpayer funds were involved. • Multiple speakers repeated a claim that the Ryan/Romney Medicare plan would cost seniors $6,400 a year. That’s a figure that applied to Ryan’s 2011 budget plan, but his current proposal (the one Romney embraces) is far more generous. The Congressional Budget Office says it “may” lead to higher costs for beneficiaries, but it can’t estimate how much. • Rep. James Clyburn engaged in partisan myth-making when he said “Democrats created Social Security” while Republicans “cursed the darkness.” History records strong bipartisan support in both House and Senate for the measure President Roosevelt signed in 1935. Not big surprise
This is US politics after all. There's evil, and then there's lesser evil. You pick the one who's gonna screw you over the least.
I don't know if this is bias (on my part) or whatever, but I feel like the inaccuracies here are a lot less severe than from the Republican convention...
maybe both parties should hire factcheck.org to review their scripts ahead of time
American Politics? Bullshit? My god I've never seen the connection!
maybe both parties should hire factcheck.org to review their scripts ahead of time
but then they wouldn't have anything to say
• The keynote speaker and others claimed the Republican presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, would raise taxes on the “middle class.” He has promised he won’t. Democrats base their claim on a study that doesn’t necessarily lead to that conclusion.
I don't think this is a very good fact check. Obama said he would close gitmo too.
I don't know if this is bias (on my part) or whatever, but I feel like the inaccuracies here are a lot less severe than from the Republican convention...
Your inaccuracies must be more seve
I don't know if this is bias (on my part) or whatever, but I feel like the inaccuracies here are a lot less severe than from the Republican convention...
Well to be fair, nothing up there compares with a thousand years of darkness.
Politicians lying out their ass? I dont believe it.
Well to be fair, nothing up there compares with a thousand years of darkness.
That wasn't the convention, though. That was just Norris being stupid.
I don't know what everyone thinks about the fact check itself, but I felt I had to post this because if it had been the exact same article about the GOP I'd have posted it and raked in the winners and everyone would have had a good laugh about what a bunch of fuckers they are
In other news, birds sing and the ocean, in fact, is still wet. But I'd still rather have Obama than furcoat no-knicker Romney
The Democrat's lies are slight changes in numbers and exaggerations, along with a couple of dumb things like Romney asking for a government bailout for his company (who would believe that?). The Republicans did not utter a single factual statement the entire convention.
This is US politics after all. There's evil, and then there's lesser evil. You pick the one who's gonna screw you over the least.
If only there was a third option.
news flash politicians are fucking liars
along with a couple of dumb things like Romney asking for a government bailout for his company (who would believe that?)
if it had not been pointed out as false, would you have actually been skeptical?
If only there was a third option.
Jill Stein 2012
oh no what are we gonna do.
Jill Stein 2012
Me 2016
If only there was a third option.
Ron Pau- oh wait... Well, we Got Gary Johnson and Jill Stein, plus a bunch of other low names.
And this is why I don't believe a word out of any politician's mouth. They all lie their asses off, they'll say whatever the voters want to hear to get elected. Both sides are full of shit, pick a color.
Jill Stein 2012
Or Stewart Alexander
If only there was a third option.
So far the third option is to give up. EDIT: My Dick 2016. Don't worry, he will ALWAYS stand up for what he believes in. No compromises, no half-assed promises. Competition is about to get screwed.
The Democrat's lies are slight changes in numbers and exaggerations.
The way the numbers are announced (as far as jobs) goes was a pretty sly manipulation. Instead of saying 4,500,000 jobs were created, they said 4.5. The actual number (4,000,000) is significantly less in terms of people having jobs. You have to realize how many people that is. I mean, that's still 500,000 people they're saying have given jobs when they really are still out of work. Not really blaming anyone, but just pointing out the huge difference a decimal like that can make.
if it had not been pointed out as false, would you have actually been skeptical?
I sighed a few times during the DNC. Democrats do not need to lie or exaggerate to prove their points, since they are right about most things, but they do anyway, and it annoys me.
I don't know what everyone thinks about the fact check itself, but I felt I had to post this because if it had been the exact same article about the GOP I'd have posted it and raked in the winners and everyone would have had a good laugh about what a bunch of fuckers they are
Republicans are so bad democrats look good standing next to them.
Well I don't see any democrats saying that your body detects and rejects rape automatically or how rape is just another way to get pregnant or how you're a person two weeks before you're concieved this is bullshit but when compared to the republican convention it can be considered nitpicking
Well I don't see any democrats saying that your body detects and rejects rape automatically or how rape is just another way to get pregnant or how you're a person two weeks before you're concieved this is bullshit but when compared to the republican convention it can be considered nitpicking
That was the opinion of a stupid congressman, that's not the views of the entire party. There's plenty of slander and manipulation on both sides, it's politics. Just because one person says it doesn't mean their entire party supports or backs it up. That can be applied to essentially anything, especially religion, politics, and the like.
