I have a huge interest for different creatures that inhabits our planet. Even if they are creepy/scary and dangerous for people. Now i wanted to make a thread where people could discuss about the amazing animal kingdom that yet hasn't been fully discovered. Some will find this interesting, some will find it scary or disgusting. But they are all a part of this planet and plays a important role in the nature. But i will admit that some of the creatures are a bit nasty in my opinion. But still we have to take care of them so they don't get extinct. Now i will present some creatures that exists but for some people would seem like if it was from a science fiction movie. NOTE: Most of the information about the creatures have i copied from Wikipedia or another website. So if anyone starts to rage about that I'm not the one who wrote the information, now you know. Coconut crab The coconut crab, Birgus latro, is the largest land-living arthropod in the world, and is probably at the upper limit of how big terrestrial animals with exoskeletons can become in today's atmosphere. Lion’s Mane jellyfish The lion's mane jellyfish (Cyanea capillata) is the largest known species of jellyfish. Its range is confined to cold, boreal waters of the Arctic, northern Atlantic and northern Pacific Oceans. Goliath Beetle The world's largest Beetle, Goliath Beetle(Goliathus regius). Lives in African rain forests. Giant squid (Not much good pictures of this creature because its a rare squid that lives deep in the ocean) The giant squid (Architeuthis) is a deep-ocean dwelling squid in the family Architeuthidae, represented by as many as eight species. Giant squid can grow to a tremendous size: recent estimates put the maximum size at 13 meters. They are the largest known predator on the planet. And there have been reports about squids like these have eaten and attacked whales, sperm-whales, and visa verse. Giant isopod - Bathynomus giganteus, the species upon which the generitype is based, is the largest known isopod and is the one most often referred to by the common name "giant isopod". Giant tropical polychaete worm (Did not find much information about this worm, sorry) This tropical polychaete worm, armed with thousands of bristles covering his body, can permanently numb humans with its sting. Its a huge worm. Camel spider Giant Camel Spiders have been known to run around 10 MPH. Although most Camel Spiders are about the size of a credit card, they have been know to grow larger than 10 inches, especially in the deserts of the Middle East. Camel Spiders are common in the Middle East, but they can also be found in the southwest U.S. and Mexico. The Mexican's call Camel Spiders matevenados, which translates to"deer killers" in English. They are not venomous but can leave a terrible wound if bitten. Titanoboa cerrejonensis Titanoboa, meaning "titanic boa”, is a genus of snake that lived approximately 60 to 58 million years ago, in the Paleocene epoch, a 10-million-year period immediately following the dinosaur extinction event. The only known species is the Titanoboa cerrejonensis, the largest snake ever discovered. By comparing the sizes and shapes of its fossilized vertebrae to those of extant snakes, researchers estimated that the Titanoboa reached a maximum length of 12 to 15 m (40 to 50 ft), weighed about 1,135 kg (2,500 lb), and measured about 1 m (3 ft) in diameter at the thickest part of the body. With other words, a really damn huge snake. Imagine ”Snakes on a plane” with this snake. Goliath bird-eater spider The Goliath bird-eater Spider (also called the Goliath Birdeater) (Theraphosa blondi) is an arachnid belonging to the tarantula group, Theraphosidae, and is considered to be the second largest (See Giant huntsman spider) spider (by leg-span) in the world. The spider was named by explorers from the Victorian era, who witnessed one eating a hummingbird. Japanese Spider Crab - Thanks Zezibesh for contributing with this creature. The Japanese spider crab, Macrocheira kaempferi, is a species of marine crab that lives in the waters around Japan. It is the largest arthropod in the world in terms of leg span, reaching up to 3.8 metres (12 ft 6 in) and weighing up to 41 pounds (19 kg). It is the subject of small-scale fishery. It looks like one of those aliens from the movie "The Thing" if you ask me. Giant Salamander - Thanks to IWHeadHunter The hellbender and Asian giant salamanders (family Cryptobranchidae) are aquatic amphibians found in brooks and ponds in the United States, China, and Japan. They are the largest living amphibians known today. The Japanese giant salamander (Andrias japonicus), for example, reaches up to 1.44 metres (4.7 ft), feeds on fish and crustaceans, and has been known to live for more than 50 years in captivity. The Chinese giant salamander (Andrias davidianus) can reach a length of 1.8 metres (5.9 ft). Megalodon (Carcharodon megalodon) - Thanks to tweeby. I don't know why i didn't add this earlier since this is one heck of a creature. Paleontological research indicates that C. megalodon is among the largest and most powerful macro-predatory fishes in vertebrate history. C. megalodon is principally known from partially preserved skeletal remains, which indicate a shark of gigantic proportions — approaching a length of around 20.3 metres (67 ft). C. megalodon is widely regarded as the largest shark to have ever lived. After scrutiny of its remains, scientists have assigned C. megalodon to the order Lamniformes but its phylogeny is disputed. Scientists suggest that C. megalodon looked like a stockier version of the great white shark, Carcharodon carcharias, in life. Fossil evidence confirms that C. megalodon had a cosmopolitan distribution. C. megalodon was a super-predator, and bite marks on fossil bones of its victims indicate that it preyed upon large marine animals. It has one of the most painful bites in the spider world. It is the most deadly spider; forget the funnel web spider – this thing is dangerous. It has the highest human kill rate in the world. To make things even worse, a bite from this spider causes an erection that lasts for hours:smug:. No – this is not a subtle ad for viagra; it really is a side-effect of a wandering spider bite. Emergency room staff are able to immediately recognize a person suffering from a bite. Needless to say, the venom is being studied for possible medical uses for people suffering erectile disfunction. Candiru - Gotta be the worst fish ever... The Candiru is a small parasitic catfish which is found mostly in the Amazon river where it is the most feared fish – even more so than piranhas. The fish can grow to a maximum length of around six inches. Candiru feed on the blood of their host creatures by swimming into the gills and using razor sharp spines on its head to attach itself. It then chews its way through the host until it reaches a major artery and drinks blood until it is satiated. The fish finds its prey by sniffing the water and this is where it starts to get nasty: the smell of human urine appeals to candirus and they can find their way to a human penis or vagina under the water and enter it. When this happens, the fish attaches itself (causing great pain to the poor human) and it can generally only be removed through surgery. This is a very unpleasant situation to be in – so be warned: don’t pee in the Amazon river. :eng101: I would really appriciate if more people came with more examples of rare creatures. Not only for the audience sake but i find this quite interesting myself. It can be hard to imagine that there exists creature like these on earth. And its quite interesting to know that most of the ocean and jungles that covers the earth haven't been fully discovered. So there are still unknown creatures out there which probably would be more amazing.
I just can't imagine what big creatures are still unearthed in the deep sea.
Anything that's above 10 meters in length and in the deep ocean scares me. Hell, the deep ocean itself scares me. Scientists have discovered so little of all of the ocean life on this planet.
''not of sensitive people'' me: ''oh how bad can it be?'' AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH FUCKFUCK KILL THEM WITH FIRE
Giant Squid.. so sick. Goliath Beetle.. so sick.
That stuff disturbed me.
I wish I had that giant snake for a pet. That would be so fucking awesome it would make my eyes bleed.
GGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I thought you fucking meant dinosaurs. JESUS CHRIST. THAT IS NOT NATURAL. NOT. NATURAL.
Coconut crabs are awesome. The one in OP's picture has a hamburger for a tail. [editline]02:39AM[/editline] Camel spiders, huge isopods and worm always make my skin crawl but mostly the worm you forgot to mention that giant japanese crab
I'd shit myself in a heartbeat if I saw that crab or that Beetle or the spider.
Camel spiders have a nasty bite. Correction: THE nasty bite.
I just can't imagine what big creatures are still unearthed in the deep sea.
For sure. I remember reading about how every time they do deep dives they're discovering more and more bizarre species. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Cthulhu.
Who knows what hides in the sea. Well, we don't, that's for sure.
GGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I thought you fucking meant dinosaurs. JESUS CHRIST. THAT IS NOT NATURAL. NOT. NATURAL.
Man up.
Not sure what I'd do if I saw a camel spider running after me.
Coconut crabs are awesome. The one in OP's picture has a hamburger for a tail.
I can't see anything but hamburger anymore. Goddamnit.
Not sure what I'd do if I saw a camel spider running after me.
Get a blunt object and possibly some flammable liquids they're fast
Some people here need to seriously calm down. I would be a bit afraid to if they would eat me, but most of the animals here don't even eat humans. And its unlikely for you to stumble upon these when you take a swim in the ocean or take a walk in the forest. So calm down. And i warned you people who are sensitive to stuff like this.
Man up.
It's just the spiders, the rest are awesome. I want one of those.
Fuck off, camel spiders. Shit. Scarred for life. Tutorials for making a flame thrower please?
I was fine until I opened the links with the bites. Now even the slightest itch is making me jump like a complete mong. I want that crab. Want it.
Fuck off, camel spiders. Shit. Scarred for life. Tutorials for making a flame thrower please?
Tank full of sticky flammable liquid, tube, trigger system. Pressurize tank with Argon, not oxygen, so you don't blow up.
Who knows what hides in the sea. Well, we don't, that's for sure.
That's a cool picture. I'm fascinated by the fact that we know more about the moon than we do about the depths of our oceans. ...I'm also terrified of deep water.
I was fine until I opened the links with the bites. Now even the slightest itch is making me jump like a complete mong. I want that crab. Want it.
Coconut crabs are beautiful. That camel spider image is inaccurate. It's been proven that two camel spiders are in that image, not one.
It's just the spiders, the rest are awesome. I want one of those.
That reminds me of a giant pillbug.
That camel spider image is inaccurate. It's been proven that two camel spiders are in that image, not one.
I think people have figured that out, Sherlock.
That reminds me of a giant pillbug.
Imagine that burrowing in your skin.
That camel spider image is inaccurate. It's been proven that two camel spiders are in that image, not one.
It's pretty obvious...
OP you better add this shit
