I started a thread yesterday about a first impressions of 'The Art of Total War' book (it was shipped early to me - officially releases 23 Jan)
Reading it in more detail today, Mike Simpson is discussing the history and the future of Creative Assembly when he mentions "and taking the series to a fantasy setting with Total War: WARHAMMER"
Missed a huge opportunity for Total Warhammer
Why not just call it Total Warhammer?
40k or fantasy? Always thought TW would be good for a Warhammer game.
I hope for 40k.
I really hope its 40k. Its universe is just so much more interesting than the fantasy one.
we all know how great that fantasy warhammer game turned out
and i hope for Fantasy. i love 40k more, but the grimdark future steals the spotlight way too much
i want Total Warhammer and Dawn of Supreme War Commander 40,000
[editline]14th January 2015[/editline]
also since it's just WARHAMMER without the 40,000 at the end it's more likely that it's WH Fantasy
There's already a gigantic mod for Medieval II that does Warhammer Fantasy, but I'd love to see an official installment. What few Warhammer games I played never had that big of a scale compared to what I always hear about in the lore.
Its going to be fantasy, since Sega owns the Warhammer Fantasy license.
By God I hope it's Fantasy. 40K is great, don't get me wrong, but the GRIMDARK ONLY WAR Schlick gets a bit old. Fantasy at least has a (mostly) consistent story that advances every so often.
By the wording and title, it's bound to be fantasy.

Fantasy is, imo, kind of boring and a little generic. With 40k you have a whole galaxy to explore and tell stories about from many different perspectives, and the "40k so grit cant even see" is all on the author/creator of the content. The difference between the books Gaunt's Ghosts and Ciaphas Cain is incredible for example.
wh fantasy fucking blows, stop beating around the bush guys.
Fantasy is like 40k but for adults.
These people know how to make games with swords and bows and siege weapons etc.
More conducive to fantasy than to 40k, whichever one you happen to like more.
Guys, it isn't going to be 40k. Why the hell would it be 40k. It's total war, an infantry fighting game. The furthest they've gone techwise was muskets.
It'd be a little bit of a fucking stretch for them to go to sci-fi and fantasy.
Also they explicitly say "...taking the series to a fantasy setting with Total War: Warhammer"
WAAAAAAGH
Fuck yes.

Marching formations of Vostroyan Firstborn, firing volleys into charging Ork hordes would be glorious.
I don't care either way, I love both universes.
Please, Creative Assembly, just take my wallet and go!
This is going to be beautiful. I still believe in Creative Assembly.
This was leaked in a preview video for Rome II, where it could be seen in a file tree for an employee that there was a "tw: warhammer" thing.
Plus Joey, the woman they brought on for Community Relations, used to run this Warhammer related YouTube channel.
A member of Dakka Dakka supposedly knows the person who did some sculpting for this. Again, supposedly.
According to the Dakka Dakka member, his friend sculpted some Lizardmen for the game. If this is true, I can die happy.
I hope for 40k.
i hope they make installments for both games
Warhammer Fantasy has a better lore around it rather than 40k's meme spam.

40K is a little more unique, but the lore is all over the fucking place. Fantasy, while a little generic, at least has a coherent lore that advances the story line and doesn't retcon something every five seconds.

I wouldn't call Warhammer Fantasy generic, it was one of the first fantasy settings to hit the scene - it's like calling DnD generic fantasy. 40k is self is largely a based upon copy of Warhammer Fantasy, easily noticeable if you go to Rogue trader days.
I'd call it more iconic than generic.

I don't think a lot of people realize how old Warhammer Fantasy actually is. But yeah, calling it generic is pretty much handwaving away 30 years worth of lore.

True, honestly. I see your point. I think it's just the amount borrowed from Tolkienian mythology mixed with the Seinfeld effect gave WHFB a bad rap.

To be honest that is 90% of all popular fantasy, imo.
High Elves best faction all age every age.
