• The Tesla Model S Is The Most-Loved Car In America
Elon Musk’s Tesla Motors TSLA +1.19% is more like a technology brand than a car company—based near Silicon Valley, it works with Panasonic to make its battery cell technology and has eschewed the dealership sales model in favor of sunlight-drenched shops in trendy districts. There has long been talk of doing a deal with Apple AAPL -0.88%. And after reporting a $16-million adjusted loss for the fourth quarter last week, Tesla Motors shares rose 17 percent yesterday morning, pushing company value to exceed $31 billion–that was even before Consumer Reports announced the Tesla Model S as the best car of the year. The moral of the story? Consumers will happily buy pure-electric sedans that cost as much as $110,000 as long as the product is right. In fact, the Model S is the most-loved car in America, according to a report this month from Strategic Vision. “We were not surprised–everything about Tesla tipped the scales in its favor,” says Alexander Edwards, the president of the San Diego, Calif.-based consulting firm. “Tesla is a sports car that also happens to provide leading edge innovation with the powertrain. Styling, performance and innovation are key.” The Models S earned especially high marks for its good looks (arguably on par with offerings from Aston Martin and Jaguar) and its aggressive drive style (0-60mph in around 4 seconds). While Audi , BMW, Cadillac and Mercedes-Benz earned some top spots in their respective statements, Tesla beat them all as the current favorite. Behind the Numbers To qualify the “most loved” cars in the United States analysts calculated reported experiences from 69,691 respondents who had owned the vehicle for at least 3 months last year. They judged 150 variables including braking, exterior styling, interior materials, performance, commitment, overall satisfaction, proposed repurchase loyalty and actual repurchase loyalty. They rated each attribute on a scale where the top box score was “5” (I love it). The idea, experts say, is that the higher the response for each segment, the stronger the leverageable position is for each brand and its particular models, and the better its ability to deliver more dollars per unit of work (aka: more value) from assembly to sales and service.
Source: http://www.forbes.com/sites/hannahelliott/2014/02/26/the-tesla-model-s-is-the-most-loved-car-in-america/
Can't say I'm surprised. It's probably the first true electric car I wouldn't be embarrassed to own.
Funny seeing this, since I saw a Tesla S on the way home from work a couple days ago.
I've seen about 12 different tesla's and I think they look amazing.
I work at a drive through and a couple of our regulars have a Model S
I don't like electric cars, mostly for subjective reasons, but if there's one thing Tesla has gotten right is that the dealership system is retarded and needs to be eliminated. Aston Martin and Jaguar? I think the Model S looks like a Focus and the wheels are kinda ugly. Certainly not as good looking as an Aston Martin Vantage or an F-Type Jaguar.
I don't like electric cars, mostly for subjective reasons of pure enjoyment, but if there's one thing Tesla has gotten right is that the dealership system is god damn retarded.
What? They're dealerships are retarded? Also why can't you enjoy a Tesla? Who couldn't enjoy a Tesla?
Waiting for TestECull to come and denounce the news
If Tesla wants to make a great headway into the market, they need to manufacture a Mustang with an electric engine. The world would be a more Murica' place.
What? They're dealerships are retarded? Also why can't you enjoy a Tesla? Who couldn't enjoy a Tesla?
Probably because of the fact that it is not like a regular car or regular sports car. There is no manual transmission, it doesn't rev up and down like a gas engine so the thing that enthusiasts look for are not really there.

I hope they make a mid-sized truck version at some point, and at an affordable rate. As much as I hate the almost fetishistic "oversized jacked up pickup, whooeee" mentality here in America, some of us actually need a vehicle with a big bed and a little towing capacity. I'm excited about this technology, though, and I can't wait to see it realized at more available price points, and to see the charging stations cropping up in more convenient places.
I still think one of the coolest-looking cars out there is the Mazda Nagare concept. [t]http://www.motortorque.com/res/images/articles/mazda_nagare_concept_580x0.jpg[/t][t]http://www.carbodydesign.com/archive/2006/11/30-mazda-nagare-concept/Mazda-Nagare-Concept-5-lg.jpg[/t]
I'm excited about this technology, though, and I can't wait to see it realized at more available price points, and to see the charging stations cropping up in more convenient places.
There's a charging station at my local Walgreens and while I'm sure almost nobody uses it, the fact that it's even there is awesome as all hell.
What? They're dealerships are retarded? Also why can't you enjoy a Tesla? Who couldn't enjoy a Tesla?
No, I meant that Tesla does not use a dealership system, and that's something they've gotten right. I don't like cars that have no gears, I already don't like Automatic Transmission petrol cars, let alone one that makes no engine sound. Electric cars also have the inherent problem of being really heavy, which affects the handling, which to me is the primary factor of enjoyment in a car. For me, a car is much more than something to get from point A to point B. If it wasn't, I would have just gotten some cheap automatic hatchback instead of my SW20. As for the Model S specifically, I've driven a Model S in a local track before and I just found it too weird for me, even if the car was fast, I hated hearing nothing but wind noise, and I also think that the central console iPad thing they have going doesn't work at all and is a gimmick. And it did feel a bit heavy.
Tesla S, Aston Rapide, and Jaguar XJ
I don't see how people could mistake those three, to be honest, and it looks slightly vulgar compared to the other two.
And yet no-one I ever talk to knows this thing even exists...
Fuck.. they better get to work on that cheaper version tesla. Sadly it's not coming till like 2016
cool, now make it available for reasonable prices
No, I meant that Tesla does not use a dealership system, and that's something they've gotten right.
Not using a dealership actually prohibits them from selling their vehicles in states that require a dealership. They'll have to start eventually or miss out on some large markets
Tesla Model S Ute The choice for environmentally friendly bogans everywhere
Well, lookit that. They're getting there! The only thing holding me back is the very low wheel base and the very short bed. I need something that can drive over sand, fit a bunch of junk in the trunk, and doesn't cost $70,000 personally! While I'm sure the low profile is a large part of its "fuel" efficiency, aerodynamically, it doesn't seem like it would translate especially well to the kind of things that I would personally need in the vehicle. It's a step in the right direction, though!
Not using a dealership actually prohibits them from selling their vehicles in states that require a dealership. I don't just see Tesla just bending over like that, to be honest.
Well, lookit that. And that window is odd too.
I still think one of the coolest-looking cars out there is the Mazda Nagare concept.
Not using a dealership actually prohibits them from selling their vehicles in states that require a dealership. Actually, has Tesla put any concept art for a pickup truck? Preferably something that looks half-decent and can tow 725 kilograms(about 1500 lbs).

Elon described it as a truck that drives like a sports car with loads of torque.
Not using a dealership actually prohibits them from selling their vehicles in states that require a dealership.
