• Homosexual Couple's Foster Child Ordered to be Taken Away; Judge Claims that Children are Better Rai
Utah state child welfare officials on Wednesday were wrangling with a ruling by a juvenile court judge who ordered a baby to be taken from lesbian foster parents and instead placed with a heterosexual couple, saying it was for the child’s wellbeing. Judge Scott Johansen’s order on Tuesday raised concerns at the Utah Division of Child and Family Services, said agency spokeswoman Ashley Sumner. Its attorneys plan to review the decision and determine what options they have to challenge the order. They said Johansen cited research that children did better when raised by heterosexual couples, but Hoagland said the judge was imposing his religious beliefs.
http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/nov/12/utah-judge-orders-baby-taken-away-from-lesbian-foster-parents
There's got to be something that someone can do about this.
Besides the very angry, very vocal protests/addresses to the supreme court? Not a whole lot, but I do believe this is illegal.
Probably cited some quack scientific journal.
Would love to see the judge's reaction if the child ends up committing suicide.
Probably cited some quack scientific journal.
There are unfortunately far too many of those.
Would love to see the judge's reaction if the child ends up committing suicide.
It's a baby. If it gets placed in foster care then by the time it's old enough to go to school it probably won't know that its foster parents aren't its real parents.

Can't believe this is happening though, so fucking backwards
There are unfortunately far too many of those.
"Pay me 50 bucks and I'll publish your article. You'll get the fancy citation and everything." and that tricks so many people.

I don't really get the hate against homosexual couples. If you have 2 dads that are both as good as half a mom, that's twice the dad and one whole mom. Or two whole moms and one whole dad.
While I think it's totally possible that kids raised in heterosexual homes do better, if we're going to disallow homosexual couples to adopt for that reason we'd have to disallow single parents as well to be consistent. And that would be simply too limiting for the number of foster kids out there.
Utah? Isn't Mississippi the only US state where homosexuals can't adopt kids? It looks like satire of the state, but this is literally real

If you ever go to Salt Lake City, it feels like an eerie fucking ghost temple. Like the Vatican but without Catholics.

I'll give this judge the benefit of the doubt and say this might be related to bullying. But even to that extent, taking away a child from their foster parents is fucked up.
There's got to be something that someone can do about this.
overturn the verdict and go to a higher court if its a small local court then no surprise
So now instead of having two gay parents, kids can have no parents because guess what? If you don't let gay couples adopt, then fewer children will be adopted!
I am intrigued, is there more to this, which is left behind in article? Because AFAIK it is illegal for judges to make desicions based on personal beliefs and\or knowledge not connected to law.
the problem is, I'm sure you could cite research that shows on average that children are better raised by wealther families, or educated families, or healthy families, etc and then we can rip their children away and have them do our bidding

Kids go through a whole lot of shit in life and while yes, maybe there is some tiny truth to this, it's completely overshadowed by life in general and doesn't reach the threshold of harm to warrant breaking up families. This is purely a religious decision and sets a very dangerous precedent.

Saying a kid will have a worse life due to bullying is dumb, should worry more about actively continuing to fight bullying then giving any weight to those who hold these arguments. Not that you are, though.
Could also assume that homosexual are more likely to be better because it's always planned. All of the fingering in the world won't fertilize an egg by mistake.
Pride center people at my uni told me that the judge rescinded his decision today
Pride center people at my uni told me that the judge rescinded his decision today
Source? I'd imagine it was stayed, not rescinded.
I'll have to disagree. I'm sure many here would say a straight couple couldve done better as their parents.
I'll have to disagree. I'm sure many here would say a straight couple couldve done better as their parents.
How's that?
How's that?
I am saying many here may have been raised by straight couples in what would be called "dysfunctional homes" including me. I believe there is statistical evidence to this view as well. So the the thread title of a judge holding a view that a homo sexual couple can't raise a child better then a hetero sexual couple is false.
