Need help applying collar tabs to DDR uniform tunic.

I recently purchased an East German DDR tunic from The Sportsman's Guide and it didn't come with collar tabs or shoulder boards. I want to buy some collar tabs but I'm not sure how to go about applying them to the tunic without causing some type of damage.
Basicly my question is this: Does anyone know HOW they are applied? Are they glued on or are they sewn?
Here's a picture just so you know what it looks like,
Mine looks just like this minus the tabs on the wrist and the tabs on the collar (duh):
