• First official HTML5 tests topped by...Microsoft

[release]The Worldwide Web Consortium has released the results of its first HTML5 conformance tests, and according to this initial rundown, the browser that most closely adheres to the latest set of web standards is...Microsoft Internet Explorer 9. Yes, the HTML5 spec has yet to be finalised. And yes, these tests cover only a portion of the spec. But we can still marvel at just how much Microsoft's browser philosophy has changed in recent months. The W3C tests put IE9 beta release 6 at the top of the HTML5 conformance table, followed by the Firefox 4 beta 6, Google Chrome 7, Opera 10.6, and Safari 5.0. The tests cover seven aspects of the spec: "attributes", "audio", "video", "canvas", "getElementsByClassName", "foreigncontent," and "xhtml5": The tests do not yet cover web workers, the file API, local storage, or other aspects of the spec. Not do they cover CSS or other standards that have nothing to do with HTML5 but are somehow lumped under HTML5 by the likes of Apple, Google, and Microsoft. As Mozilla man Asa Dotzler pointed out, when Microsoft released its IE9 platform preview 6, it said that its "HTML5 features include CSS3 2D Transforms." "WTF, Microsoft? Are you trying to add more confusion to the conversation?" Dotzler wrote. "HTML5 features include CSS3? That's seriously confused. Please stop this. HTML5 is HTML. CSS3 is CSS. The two are not the same thing." But at the same time, Dotzler praised Microsoft's browser. Its terminology may be wanting, but at least Microsoft has finally acknowledged the existence of web standards. "I'm a huge fan of IE9," he said. "I predicted many months ago that it was going to be a killer release for Web standards and that's definitely happening."[/release] Source - http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/11/01/w3c_html5_conformance_tests/ So to all Internet Explorer haters, have a read before crowning Firefox the almighty best while disregarding facts and other browsers. Also just in case you think I'm being biased, I use Google Chrome.
cool
Microsoft sucks.
I don't think anybody disagrees that the latest version of IE isn't complete shit from a technical viewpoint. But it's still horrible in many other aspects.
This doesn't necessarily address IE's well documented security flaws, and I'm sure the other browsers will rapidly catch up, not hindered as they are by the lumbering slowness of Microsoft.
I just don't like the look of it. The tabs are too large.
Not like anyone uses HTML5 anyway
Implying I don't use Iron.:smug:
Not like anyone uses HTML5 anyway
They will. It's much better, and flash will be dumped soon on places like youtube.
Microsoft sucks.
Any particular reason for that or do you just enjoy spouting 2 word statements?
They will. It's much better, and flash will be dumped soon on places like youtube.
I have to disagree there, HTML5 is mostly seen as a replacement to flash only for video, but it is limited on what is possible unlike a flash player which can be created to any specification and not to a standard.
I don't think anybody disagrees that the latest version of IE isn't complete shit from a technical viewpoint. Finally someone is using the GPU for processing power.
Yeah not a bad idea. Finally someone is using the GPU for processing power.
Recently in the past few years we have seen everyone using the GPU for processing to "free up" the CPU for other tasks, I wonder if we will get to the point where the CPU becomes an almost not used part because everything is then using the GPU.
what are you disagreeing with exactly
Oh whoops sorry man I miss-read your post, I thought you were saying that everyone thinks IE is shit from a technical pov. Sorry.

CPU works just fine for OS level tasks.
I still prefer Google Chrome. I love the sleek minimalistic look.
I still prefer Google Chrome. I love the sleek minimalistic look.
Chrome is ugly as fuck.

Wait until FF, Opera, and Chrome get there. The only reason IE's fastest is that the browsers being compared don't have full support yet. Also, I'm glad to see that Microsoft is trying to do something with IE, but I'm going to stick with Firefox.
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME IE runs like shit, it hardly even loads pages.

I'm sure others will agree. If not, you're an IE fanboy.
IE is NOT the fastest browser. FF is 100x faster in my experience. I'm sure others will agree. If not, you're an IE fanboy.
That's not what I meant. Right now IE will be the fastest because it conforms to the standard more than the other browsers. When the other browsers conform as well, then IE will again fall to the bottom. Worded badly on my part.
Chrome is ugly as fuck.
You are entitled to your opinion, however wrong and stupid it may be.
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME IE runs like shit, it hardly even loads pages.
What was the last version you used? 6?
IE is NOT the fastest browser. FF is 100x faster in my experience. I'm sure others will agree. If not, you're an IE fanboy.
Woah woah woah, calm down there. Someone sounds a little bit mad. The newest IE, which is currently in beta, contends and even beats most other browsers in page-loading speed. I have currently got IE beta, Chrome and Opera installed, and I use IE beta the most.
I don't care... I'm still loyal to the mighty O
