• USB port on headsets dammaged

Okay facepunch, so my mom asked me if she could use my headsets to listen to some web seminar at her office computer. I let her borrow them for two days and today she returned them while in the car. As I walked in the house I grabbed the loose cable and then I saw the USB. I have not been able to find the metal jacket that is obviously missing, I have looked in the car and along the floor and found nothing so I am assuming its stuck in the USB port of her office computer. I am just wondering if this has happened to any of you before and if this is easily repairable without the use of a soldering gun. I am trying to repair these to avoid having to purchase new headsets since these work just fine for me. Thank you.
Kill your mother. Honestly. How did she not notice that something was wrong?
She isn't too good with computers anyways. She knows how to somewhat get by with her limited knowledge but I don't expect her to see that the usb port is broken, when I asked she just said she pulled out the headsets and left the office, but she didn't look at them at all.

[editline] k [/editline] [t]http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/1546/imag1039.jpg[/t] There you go. The cable runs from the headset to that thing which controls volume and mutes/unmutes, then it goes into the now broken port.
Just cut the the end and solder in a new USB port from another cheap cable
[QUOTE=B!N4RY;32985906]Just cut the the end and solder in a new USB port from another cheap cable[/QUOTE] Yes but the end on this one has a chip in it, which is important to the headset actually working. Next time I go to mom's office ill look around and maybe find the end of the usb jammed into a port. I'll yank that out of there and see if I can somehow reassemble this thing back together. I'm not sure how strong it will hold though.
Well, that complicates things. If you wanted, you could cut the USB end off and attach a standard headphone / mic jack to it. You should just politely ask your mom for a new one since she's the one who did it.

Thanks anyways. I'll edit this post later if I managed to repair it or not, but im probably not getting that part back till friday. [editline] sup [/editline] Alright, updating as promised for anyone reading this thread in the future. I managed to reattach the part to the usb after prying the plastic case open and I slid the part on. The part seemed to be able to go in both positions (upside down or right side up) if you attempt to put it in upside down, you will feel like it does not want to go in too far, barely at all. When you flip the part over and install it the correct way it should slide right in. On my headsets I had to pry open the plastic case containing the chip because the part couldn't fit inside, but after that it slid into position and I re wrapped the entire thing in tape. Good as new (almost)!
