• CPU & Graphics Card over heating issue

In the past week or so my PC has decided to turn itself into a cooker. I get 80c+ temps on my CPU & GFX card if I play a game. But when idle I get low temps I've dusted the PC, cleaned all the fans, reapplied the thermal paste and double checked to see that all fans are running. I have literally no idea what is causing this heat. I've never had a heat issue before, it started when I was rendering some films last Friday. Any suggestions on what it could be and how to fix it?
videocard temps are fine, that's hot for a CPU though, you should clean the heatsink on it and possibly remove the heatsink and clean and replace the thermal compound.
I've done that, the hottest my vid card went before was about 60c at a push. That was I was worried about that getting too hot. CPU is a definite issue. [editline]7th October 2011[/editline] Any other suggestions?
Are you sure your cooler has all the 4 corners clipped in? those stock coolers are a bit deceptive How warm is the ambient temp of the room?
what about overclocking? you may need a new cooler if your pushing too hard.

The clips are a bitch to put in, that could be it. Yeap, I made sure the thermal paste was all correct. I just took out the CPU fan/heatsink and check all the holding pins then reconnected it all and made sure it was firm and that there was no way it could move or wobble. [editline]8th October 2011[/editline] Well making sure the Fan/heatsink was in place might have sorted something out, now when I play Mafia 2 on max settings it only reaches about 68c which is a hell of an improvement over the 88c+

Glad we could help.
Thanks, I'm going to buy an extra fan for my Case and maybe an after-market CPU fan just to cool it down a bit more.
Ok this is pissing me off now, the mad temperatures are back, now I am hitting 91c under load. I think it might be a sensor error if the mobo is reading at 30 or so whilst the CPU is reading at 80, as normally the mobo sensors are, in my experience, really close to the CPU, meaning that the are usually around the same temp. Also have you felt the amount of heat coming off the heatsink?
