Not sure if this source is credible or not, but here it is -
Following yesterday’s Russian warning that Russia stood ready to shoot down US aircraft or missiles attacking Syria, the US has confirmed all plans for military action against Syria have been dropped.

it stands ready to shoot US aircraft down if the lives of Russian personnel are put in danger
Pretty vital part that should be pointed out, title makes it seem that the Russians would just randomly shoot down US planes.
What interest does Russia have in Syria?

I haven't been up to date with Syria but I think it was something along the lines of Russia backing Assad?
What interest does Russia have in Syria?
They are a strategic ally of Syria, and they have at least one very important military base there that has access to the Mediterranean sea, which gives them a very important position in a theoretical war with the West.

Syria contains a warm water port they can utilize.

Dickwaving and creating some allies in a strategic location.

Gotta remind everyone they have a very large schlong.

As far as I know it has to do with warm water ports primarily, but it is also within Russian interests to keep Assad in power as they have close ties, and are also allied.
Having the backing of Syria could provide Russia with a jumping point from which they could expand their sphere of influence into the Middle East.

Maybe blocking a natural gas pipeline from the gulf is another factor. So if that kind of a thing is built, then it starts from Iran, but they both have to go through Syria.

Well of course they would have to dish out a legitimate cause for their actions.
Just like protecting all the Russian citizens in Crimea.

Crimea had strategic value.
What strategic value comes out of shooting down aircraft of one of the most powerful countries on earth?

A stable saltwater port.

Threatening to shoot them down seems to be working just fine.

Attack on an ally seems like a real actual legit reason to retaliate though. It's kind of important to remember that, regardless of real intentions, Russian military is stationed in Syria and acts on a request of officially recognized Syrian government. Shooting down Coalition's jets attacking Syrian official military is stupid, but is as legitimate as Turkey shooting down Russian jet violating its airspace. There's no green men in the picture, Russia is within its right to make threats and act on them.

Except this one makes actual sense?
What interest does Russia have in Syria?
Beyond just strategic value, Russia and Syria have had a long-standing relationship as allies, 50+ years iirc. The United States has had similar relationships with various states over the years and could reasonably be expected to act in similar fashion, albeit with (hopefully) a bit more finesse and a bit less indiscriminate killing
Literally the entire front page of this website is anti-West stuff, is there a better source?

Syrian gov asked Russian to protect them.
USA went in one day and dropped a bomb on Syrian citizens.
Syrians don't like it.
Russia help Syrian to ward off U.S.
And a bunch of chess games

"U.S. and Syria: Modern Imperialism and the Corruption of Language" hahaha
The Duran is like InfoWars. completely untrustworthy.
I don't think USA was seriously considering striking Syria, that happens and consider it a WW III.

Hey, I don't want to sound rude or anything, but you guys are severly under informed about the situation because of the media, I'm not the biggest fan of the Syrian government, but if it wasn't for the Syrian army, me and probably too many other people wouldn't be alive by now
Is Obama the least fearsome president in US history?
Is Obama the least fearsome president in US history?
Nah, my class president was a pretty meek guy
Is Obama the least fearsome president in US history?
I agree how dare Obama not get this country embroiled in at least one pointless war during his two-terms.
What a fucking coward.

I'm informed enough to make that post, if you have anything to add or object - by all means, please do, I'm always on the lookout for information, it's my speciality.
According to the (2001 census), the ethnic makeup of Crimea's population consists of the following self-reported groups: Russians:1.18 million (58.3%), Ukrainians: 492,200 (24.3%), Crimean Tatars: 243,400 (12.0%), Belarusians: 29,200 (1.4%), other Tatars: 11,000 (0.5%), Armenians: 8,700 (0.4%)
all I have to add is, they did indeed target hospitals and schools etc... , but do you know what terrorists are like?, they're uneducated, severly mislead breanless barbarians, why did you assume that hospitals/schools in a terrorist infected area would be any operational?, there's no one there, an empty building with only death inside it, and most importantly, why didn't you consider the fact that terrorists tend to use such big buildings as bases?
On top of that, why would the government attack such buildings they built themselves with no reason?
I don't know what's stupid, but targeting the only force fighting terrorists is pretty damn stupid, which will lead to terrorists destroying the whole country, just like they "freed" Libya and Iraq.
Again I say I'm not the biggest fan of the government, but I know that no government in the world can hold for 6 years if the people were against it, it's just isn't the case
