Vance Joy has topped this year's Triple J Hottest 100 list with his song Riptide. A swell of public support helped the Melbourne singer songwriter, real name James Keogh, beat Kiwi teen sensation Lorde to take out the top spot in the listener-voted poll. Riptide is the second single off Vance Joy's debut EP God Loves You When You're Dancing, released in March last year. British rockers Arctic Monkeys had three songs in the Top 20, including their No 4 hit Do I Wanna Know? More than 1.4 million music lovers voted this year in the annual music poll, which was first held in 1989. The reaction on social media was mostly positive, with some listeners expressing surprise Lorde did not claim the top spot.
The list:
1. Vance Joy – Riptide 2. Lorde – Royals 3.
Well it's a hell of a lot better than fucking Wonderwall winning their hottest 100 of the past 20 years list
Or Thrift Shop winning last years top 100 of 2012
i totally dropped out of pop culture when i left school now i have no idea what any of these songs are bar a dozen at the most makes me feel like a massive introvert
Surprised (and quite happy) that bands such as The Amity Affliction/Queens Of The Stone Age/Bring Me The Horizon are on the list, and also extremely pleased that One Direction/Justin Bieber aren't
The one thing I enjoy about Australia day, threw a party a mates and just played it all day. Bit annoyed there was like 4 screemo songs in there, alotta Lorde as well.
also extremely pleased that One Direction/Justin Bieber aren't
Triple J doesn't deal with those types of artist
riptide is a great song [editline]26th January 2014[/editline] honestly suprised bastille, imagine dragons or onerepublic aren't there
riptide is a great song [editline]26th January 2014[/editline] honestly suprised bastille, imagine dragons or onerepublic aren't there
I really can't stand onerepublic.
onerepublic i'd consider the weakest out of all 4 [editline]26th January 2014[/editline] besides the second line of riptide describes my life right now
Surprised (and quite happy) that bands such as The Amity Affliction/Queens Of The Stone Age/Bring Me The Horizon are on the list, and also extremely pleased that One Direction/Justin Bieber aren't
Triple J is well known for not playing manufactured artists
At least Get Lucky wasn't number one. Channel Seven played that song so much I wanted to punch a small child each time I heard it. I'm sort of meh about Riptide, not a huge fan but it could have been worse.
Triple J is well known for not playing manufactured artists
Which is why it shits over most other radio stations
damn i wish we had this radio in the uk
I was so sure Royals was going to be number one dammit. Not that I'm angry it wasn't though, it's just Riptide came out of nowhere for me, the only place I hear it is in that ad with Rod Laver in it that kept getting played during the tennis. And I was expecting some more Karnivool, I was expecting We Are to get way up there actually.
I was pretty happy with the list. Also happy that daft punk get lucky wasn't number one. Love daft punk and the song, but wouldn't of been a good choice.
46. Queens Of The Stone Age – If I Had A Tail
Wow that's even my favourite QOTSA song
I must be living in a cave because besides get lucky I haven't heard none of those songs.
I can't stand lorde royals, it's one of few songs that just irritates me. Riptide is good though.
Wow that's even my favourite QOTSA song
I appear missing > if I had a tail
Not surprised at Gambino being included, 3005 is a massive jam.
not a bad list, listened to London Grammar yesterday, good stuff
damn i wish we had this radio in the uk
You can stream it online anywhere in the world [editline]26th January 2014[/editline] Hell Triple J are huge partners with BBC Radio 1 so
I've never heard of 96/100 of these.
Pretty much only ever listened to Karnivool properly on that entire list, and they were placed last. Behind Birds of Tokyo which is Ian Kenny's second band, which are shit compared to Karnivool IMO.
I've never heard of 96/100 of these.
That's probably because 75 of them are Australian, British or Kiwi. 24 of them are American though.
Wow, I love the Australia top 100. That's an awesome list.
oooh they have The National on there, cool! [editline]26th January 2014[/editline] love this song
great tune, riptide deserved it imo not a bad list overall
