This section lacks in threads to update on what's going on. Set down your new albums in this thread and the ones you look forward to being released. Bhi Bhiman's second album. I'm not too sure what drew me to this album, I read a good review but it's more his voice that made me get it. It's a great record imo, lots of Folk/Singer Songwriter influences by a Sri-Lankan American. Heems - Nehru Jackets Pretty wild.. in parts abstract but it's very dense in terms of sampling things. What I like here is that it's a hip hop record with the culture not associated with it. Makes it all the more interesting and enjoyable. Cohen's new album Old Ideas. At a billion years of age, this guy should be relaxing comfortably in a chair in his garden. Yet, he still manages to bring the old enticing Cohen back with his song-writing. The tunes aren't complex, neither are they "mind-blowing", but that's not the point of a Cohen record like this. Just like 10 New Songs, it was more about character, what else dyou need with this guy? also this: pretty fresh house album, it's definitely not the "house" music that I've heard before. Not amazing, but unexpected. Grimes' Visions Pretty worthy synthy dreamy pop album, not polished as some would prefer but I liked it quite a bit. The female vocals here are pretty spot on when trying to represent dream pop, no need for dumbass critics to give them a hard time. Springsteen's new album.. Wrecking Ball. Now everyone assumes: HE'S OLD, WHY BOTHER. The question is a good one. I have to admit, the "newest" record I've heard of his is "Tunnel of Love" and that is a 1987 album. So I go into this album with no real expectations. What I hear on the right off is this really fresh energy from the man. The song-writing wasn't going to be as good as his classics on Born to Run and Darkness at the Edge of Town, but Springsteen still has the power to put forth a heartland record. That's right, if you hate America, you will hate this man. :v: His voice is very much still there, I need to give it another listen to spot the gem here because I did notice something. I have Cloud Nothings, Sleigh Bells, Burial and others to hear. I'm hearing Ani DiFranco's new record now before the Magnetic Fields.
Upcoming stuff:

Janelle Monáe stated that she plans to release two albums in 2012

New Prodigy album released this year.

look out for the new XX too.

MIA is releasing one this summer :O Edited: and Nas... Edited: yes it does, Flaming Lips will release an LP this year. There's gonna be more GY!BE? :D
I still need to hear the new Swans record too:
New Devin Townsend album coming.
Gonjasufi's new album is kind of a dud. I don't want to be mean but I've only heard it once so my opinion means nout. I guess this is just because I enjoyed "A Sufi and a Killer" too much. Give it time.
Haven't been into too much from 2012 yet, new Cloud Nothings and Loma Prieta were pretty cool though. That said, I still haven't listened to the new Volta or Cursive yet. I heard a few songs from the new Cursive and wasn't impressed, we'll see though. Probably gonna look into the new Andrew Bird album sometime this week too. Anyways, I'm really looking forward to new stuff from Brand New, MewithoutYou, and Karnivool (Maybe this year?), and I'm hoping to see that Circle Takes the Square album finally get released, or even another EP would be great.
Titus Andronicus has a new album coming out around November. of Montreal's new LP came out in February.
listened to these just now, not the type for "first impressions" but have em: Ani DiFranco - ¿Which Side Are You On? Not quite a review or impression yet so it's useless to comment... Reminds me KIND OF Joanna Newsom, but I'll soon realise it's a dumb comparison because it sounds nothing like her except the voice. Couldn't help but laugh a few times, but that's probably a good thing and means I like it.
I'm really looking forward to Storm Corrosion

Children - Apnea) 29th May: And there's also a new Steven Wilson album and Devin Townsend's doing Epicloud, Ghost 2 and possibly a sequel to Ziltoid.
I'm really looking forward to Storm Corrosion
A merging of Opeth and Porcupine Tree does sound intriguing. Not surprised that they paired at last though.
This is what I've listened to so far, definitely need to expand it Reign of Terror by Sleigh Bells Definitely my favorite of the stuff I've listened to. Extremely fun, crazy noise pop with a fantastic guitar. Habits and Contradictions by Schoolboy Q Kind of torn on this one. Lyrically, it sounds like really stereotypical misogynistic rap about bitches and weed. On the other hand, I do love the beats (was really pleased to hear a Portishead sample) and I think he's a pretty good rapper, plus the Kendrick Lamar guest spot doesn't hurt Born To Die by Lana Del Rey Mostly a standard pop album, although darker. I enjoy it for what it is and there are some fairly interesting tracks like Off to the Races. Production is pretty odd though. Be the Void by Dr. Dog Don't have a very strong opinion on this one. There are some pretty decent tracks and then some meh ones, doesn't really deviate that much from their other albums which sound kind of like the Beatles with something added (Folk? dunno) I'll probably just go and listen to everything posted in this thread
a sequel to Thick As A Brick? :OOOOO
Already out: The 2 Bears - Be Strong Forthcoming: Odd Future - The OF Tape, Vol.2 And hopefully a new Bloc Party record too.
So far only listened to and enjoyed these, ordered from best to worst. Not that any of them were bad. Sleigh Bells - Reign of Terror > Errors - Have Some Faith in Magic > fun. > Some Nights > The Ting Tings - Sounds from Nowheresville All I can really think of that I'll be listening to are new Marina & The Diamonds, Swans (I think), Muse, and There Will Be Fireworks. Vampire Weekend and Frightened Rabbit are apparently recording/writing new stuff so maybe them too if I/we are lucky.
the ting tings are still around? good god
pretty depressing innit
the ting tings are still around? good god
Not changed a whole lot from their first album either. Still catchy stuff to listen to imo, but didn't listen to the whole album more than once.
They're the only ones I'm really looking forward to at the moment. Epica's album has been released but hasn't been delivered yet. Can't think of any other albums
Also there's a new MGMT album scheduled for release this year and new QOTSA hopefully
A merging of Opeth and Porcupine Tree does sound intriguing. Not surprised that they paired at last though.
Except its not anything like anything ever apparently. According to them it has more things in common with stuff like Scott Walker, Talk Talk, and other weird shit than it does Prog metal or anything like that. Also Anathema's new album, Weather Systems, is one I'm keeping an eye on. Don't know if it will be any good though.
The 2 Bears album is really good
Except its not anything like anything ever apparently. According to them it has more things in common with stuff like Scott Walker, Talk Talk, and other weird shit than it does Prog metal or anything like that.
My expectations are very high I'm also debating whether to put in a pre-order for it. I really want it, but $35 seems like too much
My most anticipated release this year.
the real question is which era of scott walker and talk talk.
New Devin Townsend album coming.
Yup, Epicloud is out some time this year, I think most of the recording is done for it now.
