- Editor of the London-based Bureau of Investigative Journalism, Iain Overton, makes claim on Twitter. - The tweet prompts furious speculation online about the identity of the alleged paedophile, who is still alive. - Channel Four's Michael Crick claims he has spoken to the man, who denies allegations and will sue if Newsnight shows investigation The BBC has been dragged into another storm over a second Newsnight paedophile investigation, it emerged today. Editor of the London-based Bureau of Investigative Journalism, Iain Overton, mysteriously tweeted that a 'senior political figure' was to be be outed as a child-abuser this evening. He wrote: 'If all goes well we've got a Newsnight out tonight about a very senior political figure who is a paedophile.' The investigation about the unnamed man, who is alive, is currently being looked at by the BBC's legal team, who refused to comment on the story today. But the BBC is refusing to comment on his claims and would not even confirm to MailOnline that any such investigation exists. And now there are huge doubts about whether this latest investigation into the mystery political figure will be broadcast. Mr Overton's bureau he runs is a not-for-profit organisation which works with news outlets to publish in-depth investigations. It says it has been working on this project for the BBC. Channel Four political correspondent Michael Crick says he has spoken to the man at the centre of the allegations, who denied that he was a paedophile and said he would sue if Newsnight broadcasts anything on him tonight. Tweets: Channel Four political correspondent Michael Crick says he has spoken to the man at the centre of the allegations, who has denied he is a paedophile and said that he will sue if Newsnight go ahead with the film Claims: Iain Overton says that subject to BBC legal approval then their investigation will be shown on BBC 2 tonight He also added that the man said he had not been approached for a comment by the BBC, despite it being earmarked for tonight's Newsnight. The Metropolitan Police have told MailOnline they have not been handed anything on the subject of the investigation. It took a ITV documentary to reveal that Jimmy Savile had carried out decades of abuse involving hundreds of victims, some of whom were attacked on BBC premises. It emerged that Newsnight had carried out its own investigation into the paedophile DJ - including an interview with the same victim in the ITV documentary- nearly a year before. A BBC team spent six weeks probing allegations that the presenter abused pupils at a school in Surrey, speaking to at least four women who claimed they had been assaulted or knew about events. But the report was shelved at the last minute at the request of the programme's editor Peter Rippon. It was not until last month that the BBC aired its own investigation into the scandal, on Panorama. It covered both Savile's crimes and the Corporation's reaction. Mr Rippon stood aside from his role at Newsnight after the BBC said his explanation for shelving the story was 'inaccurate or incomplete'. The corporation's director general George Entwistle was hauled before a select committee last week to explain why and how it happened. The row comes after Labour MP Tom Watson shocked the Commons last month by alleging there was ‘clear intelligence’ linking a former Number 10 aide with a notorious group of sex offenders. He has compiled a dossier allegations for the Metropolitan Police, which is currently dealing with hundreds of allegations of abuse against Jimmy Savile. But it is unclear if this is linked to the Newsnight investigation. Mr Watson suggested a Number 10 insider was named in files connected to the conviction of a child porn smuggler in the early 1990s. He told the Commons: ‘The evidence used to convict paedophile Peter Righton, if it still exists, contains clear intelligence of a widespread paedophile ring. ‘One of its members boasts of his links to a senior aide of a former prime minister who says he could smuggle indecent images of children from abroad. ‘The leads were not followed up, but if the file still exists I want to ensure that the Metropolitan Police secure the evidence, re-examine it and investigate clear intelligence suggesting a powerful paedophile network linked to Parliament and No 10.’ Mr Cameron said Mr Watson ‘raises a very difficult and complex case’ and he was ‘not entirely sure which former prime minister he is referring to’
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2226833/Jimmy-Savile-scandal-Senior-political-figure-outed-paedophile-Newsnight.html The program is on tonight at 22:30pm on BBC2
It's been nice knowing you Cameron.
Gonna record this, I've got work at 10.
It's been nice knowing you Cameron.
Apparently it's a former number 10 aide, should be a good watch.
Jimmy Savile was connected, he knew people in power and was powerful himself. He was a creepy fuck with resources. In the Louis Theroux documentary on him, Louis found a piece of paper with his own address on it, in Savile's home. Then Savile said he'd send a couple guys around to Louis' house if he doesn't like the documentary.
Sound more like "HEY! WATCH US TONIGHT! OUR RATINGS SUCK!"
This is pretty horrible behaviour. I mean if the person is a pedophile but doesn't engage in illegal acts like trading CP their reputation will be ruined just to drive up ratings. If the person DOES trade CP then Newsnight is being irresponsible by not informing the police and allowing them to conduct a proper investigation.

its probably going to be boris johnson
It's been nice knowing you Cameron.
Imagine it actually was Cameron, Jesus fucking Christ man he would be destroyed in every way imaginable.
Gonna record this, I've got work at 10.
Thats a good idea, if the accused does try to take on the BBC for libel it will be pulled from iPlayer. [editline]2nd November 2012[/editline]
Sound more like "HEY! WATCH US TONIGHT! OUR RATINGS SUCK!"
No, Newsnight doesnt do that. Its a serious current affairs show that really doesn't need help with its ratings.
He also had connections in the IRA threatening to send them round if you displeased him
Yeah he got away with a lot due to his connections, threats, power and smokescreen.
this seems so unreal
this seems so unreal
Pedophiles are often found in high places.

The paedophile stuff makes this finally relevant again [editline]2nd November 2012[/editline]
Pedophiles are often found in high places.
Bar the millions of cases where this isn't true, you are 100% correct.
i wish paedophilia would stop being such a taboo in society. we need to rehabilitate them and reduce the causes of paedophilia, not subject them to witch-hunt.
Can't wait to see who it is and the shitstorm that follows.
i wish paedophilia would stop being such a taboo in society. we need to rehabilitate them and reduce the causes of paedophilia, not subject them to witch-hunt.
There's a difference between pedophilia and raping tons of kids when in a position of power.
It's pretty hard to defend pedos when some of them are actually p vocal about it (obv on the internet and anyonymously) and apparently don't want to be "cured" or whatever. Think furries but actually malicious. Edit: And when a child abuser somewhere is getting doxxed every pedo on the forum/pictureboard jumps out of the bushes and the compassion for the victims soon to be unable to molest some more kids is overflowing.
There's a difference between pedophilia and raping tons of kids when in a position of power.
well of course there's a difference. but there's also the argument that if there were a credible method of reducing paedophilia in society, this would happen far far less
Bar the millions of cases where this isn't true, you are 100% correct.
The millions of cases? Nice figure there. They are often in offical jobs whether its a coach or even a priest in the catholic church, being in high positions means you are less likely to be caught. This whole pedo thing makes me think of this.
How can they be "cured"? they may be vocal about finding children sexually attractive (the same way a gay man may be vocal about finding other men sexually attractive) but it doesn't mean they go out every night and rape kids
Apparently chemical castration works, offenders in Poland can have it done voluntarily.
How can they be "cured"? they may be vocal about finding children sexually attractive (the same way a gay man may be vocal about finding other men sexually attractive) but it doesn't mean they go out every night and rape kids
They're vocal in a malicious way, as in sharing some p fucking disgusting fantasies and tips regarding raping and abusing children. These people don't all go out every night and rape kids, but they would if they dared.
