The first incident reportedly occurred at 10:30 am ET off the coast of Alaska, when NORAD identified the Russian planes and two F-22s hurried to intercept them. Another incident occurred at 11 am ET off the coast of central California, and was responded to by two F-15s. The Russian bombers they intercepted are capable of carrying nuclear weapons, but sources do not indicate whether or not they were armed.

Since the start of the crisis in Ukraine, Russia has flown increasingly aggressive aircraft missions throughout Europe and the Pacific. From May 2014 to September 2014, the US intercepted Russian bombers over Guam and off the coast of California and Alaska. In September, two Russian aircraft carried out a mock cruise missile attack on the US.
Nobody fears NK 2.0, Putin. Stop trying.
They should load them up with fireworks and carpet bomb us with festive colors.
the Tu-95, very stealthy, so stealthy our submarines can track them....on sonar...from depth.............. i mean how on earth do crews fly those things without going deaf
"Intercept" is pretty ambiguous. Were they shot down, escorted to a US airbase, or chased off?
"Intercept" is pretty ambiguous. Were they shot down, escorted to a US airbase, or chased off?
Intercepted usually means escorted out.
War games
What phone call?
What phone call?
"Hello, Obama? Is your refrigerator running?"
I think this is just appropriate. Or you know, Russians being generally just fucking awesome.
Really wish Russia could cut it out with the machismo bullshit.
"Intercept" is pretty ambiguous. Were they shot down, escorted to a US airbase, or chased off?
Intercepting usually means getting to them before they get to us, what action is then taken can vary but obviously they weren't going to shoot them down.
Aren't tu's like the loudest (turboprop) plane ever?
As a Californian resident, I'd be perfectly fine with Russia nuking the shit out of this abominable wasteland
As a Californian resident, I'd be perfectly fine with Russia nuking the shit out of this abominable wasteland
You are weak.
They do this every year. They come over and probe our defenses and we escort them away. It's the bi-annual hide and seek game.
They should load them up with fireworks and carpet bomb us with festive colors.
And that would be clever, red white and blue fireworks. You would think it's because it's your flag's colors, while Russian news: "The skies over US have been painted in glorious colors of the Russian flag, it is a sign of domination; *footage of people being drunk and happy* oppressed American populace celebrates their new overlords". And everyone's happy. [editline]7th July 2015[/editline]
pretty sure it's known in the VVS for making long-time crew go literally deaf.
No, surprisingly the interior is actually decently sound-proof. Not to mention that crews have a special helmets that protect their ears, dunno what they're called though.
the Tu-95, very stealthy, so stealthy our submarines can track them....on sonar...from depth.............. i mean how on earth do crews fly those things without going deaf
The Russians evidently invented great sound proofing as well. Still like how a sub can randomly track it because it's so damn loud. Imagine if you lived near this bombers base.
I think this is just appropriate. Or you know, Russians being generally just fucking awesome.
What's stopping you from moving to Russia?
I went to look up how noisy the plane was. The prop tips are faster then sound, which is why it's so loud. It also had many pictures of the TU-95 being escorted by Fighter jets. TU-95 Being escorted away by a Typhoon. TU-95 being escorted away by an F-15. It truly is a rite of passage for fighter jets to be photographed escorting a TU-95 away form something.
http://tu-95.net/tupolev-tu-95-bear-intercepts-from-the-1960s-till-today/# So Erie to see so many different generations of fighters all escorting the same cold war monstrosity.
Really wish Russia could cut it out with the machismo bullshit.
They're testing alertness, seeing how fast and how aggressively we respond so they can take notes, it's pretty routine.
When my brother was serving on the USS Nimitz, they had a pair of TU-95's fly extremely close to the flight deck so they scrambled their F/A 18's. My brother also said the ship warned them via radio but this news piece says there were no communications at all. http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/02/11/russian.bomber/index.html?eref=rss_world
I think if you take your helmet off while flying in that thing it might blow your eardrums out.
Intercepted usually means escorted out.
That'd be hilarious if they were actually shot down.
I think this is just appropriate. Or you know, Russians being generally just fucking awesome.
Do you really have such a gigantic hate-on for the US that Russia waving their nuclear dick around in their direction like it's still the Cold War is a good thing?
That'd be hilarious if they were actually shot down.
You know what's not hilarious, dealing with the political cluster fuck of a plane being shot down.
You know what's not hilarious, dealing with the political cluster fuck of a plane being shot down.
you don't know that, it might be pretty funny
I think that this is actually a good thing, It reminds us to stay on our guard.
