Irony Meters Worldwide Explode As Satanists Plan A Rally In Support of Rick Scott
The Satanic Temple is planning its first major rally, which will be held in support of Florida Gov. Rick Scott later this month for -- which might sound ironic -- signing a bill that allows for the possibility of prayer in public schools.
The religion's founder Neil Bricke, who is based in New York, is expected to speak at the rally. The group also hopes to open a temple in New York in the next few months.
It may be telling that the Satanic temple will be located in New York and the group's first rally, scheduled for Jan. 25, will be held in Florida.
"New York is a pretty good place for Satanism. Florida is too," said Satanic Temple spokesman Lucien Greaves.
The Florida bill that has delighted the Satanists is Senate Bill 98 and gives students "sole discretion in determining whether an inspirational message is to be delivered" at a student assembly. The bill prohibits school officials from participating in or influencing whether an inspirational message will be delivered.
Satanists feel that the policy "does a lot to support religious diversity," according to Greaves.
"The Satanic Temple embraces the free expression of religion, and Satanists are happy to show their support of Rick Scott who -- particularly with SB 98 -- has reaffirmed our American freedom to practice our faith openly, allowing our Satanic children the freedom to pray in school," the Temple said in a release announcing the rally.
"This is a great country. Everyone has a voice," Gov. Scott's press secretary wrote in an email to ABCNews.com when asked about the rally.
Greaves said that Satanism is an "unjustly maligned" religion.
"I think that Satanism is the very definition of a marginalized or misunderstood religion," Greaves told ABCNews.com. "People don't think of Satanism as being a compassion-based religion in the least, and they usually associate it with anti-human behavior."
Members of the religion believe that Satan "has the compassion and wisdom of an angel," according to the religion's website. They believe that God is perfect and outside the sphere of the physical, so Satan presides over the universe as his "proxy."
This is the religion's first major rally and Greaves said that while many followers have expressed online interest in attending, he does not know how many will be at the rally. He also does not know the exact number of followers the religion has, but says it is in the "thousands" based on online activity from around the world.
The Satanic Temple formed in 2012. When their building opens in New York, Greaves said, "We would be the only real, active Satanic church that actually holds public services."
In Satan we trust \o
I wonder what Rick Scott thinks.
Satanists are so creepy.
I fucking hate Rick Scott and seriously wonder how he could even get into a government position. The guy stole hundreds of millions of dollars from the Government through medicare fraud and somehow he is still able to get a position in that government.

He lowered education funding and said that he'd raise it if he was reelected. Asshole.

Isn't tricking people into things like the #1 requirement for a governor or congressman
Y'know; if you wanted to pray to a god/godlike being specifically to steer politics your way, Satan would probably be the best bet.
Maybe with Loki as a tag-team partner.
I know a bit about the actual satanism and understand it's not the heavy metal 'hail satan' world of really angry goth kids that everyone makes it out to be, but I read "Satanic Temple" and I know everyone on the planet is going to jump to conclusions on this

I wonder if the goal of this is really just a personal bid to open up more public options for the now expanding public realm of the religion, or if it's just to push Rick Scott and his supporters into wonky territory because it brings up the fact that it wouldn't be 'freedom of christianity to impose on public settings', but freedom of all religions to do so; it may either make them realize this could be a bad idea, or back themselves into corners and make themselves into bad guys by trying to exclude people directly. 'freedom of all religions equally' seems to be a missing factor in a lot of freedom of religion movements politicians keep pushing, so if my speculation falls into place at all I think this may get interesting

*shrugs* Florida voters are stupid as hell.
Huh. Ex was a Satanist.
They're pretty damn chill.

Haha I think they're actually trolling him
Excellent
Granted, Satanism is basically just libertarianism and hedonism thrown in a blender (assuming that's the kind these are) but they're damn good at getting a rise out of people I'll give 'em that.

I will be really surprised if this isn't what they're doing.
I think the christian dogma contradicts satanism because satan is imprisoned and tormented in hell forever, so how does he act as a proxy between the physical and heaven.

A really sturdy wi fi connection

I always considered it "hedonism without being an asshole". you can find the list of dos/do nots, which are basically "do whatever you want if it pleases you. Treat others as you would like them to treat you. If they treat you like shit, there's zero reason for you to continue being polite and you should probably deck him if the situation calls for it". The entire thing is "be chill unless something really unchills you, take care of it then chill some more"
I think the whole satan side of the religion (since the founder actually includes a bunch of ritualistic stuff in his book that I think he even mentioned is only for if you really want to do that stuff and it's not necessary as part of the practice) isn't much more than a jab at religion and that the true core of it all is actually just intended as a philosophy
I could be wrong, I'll find a friend of mine who's well read on it
Freedom of Religion is Freedom of Religion.
Personally, I approve of this and can't wait to see little Satanists running around (even though I'm British and won't see them anyway.)

Well, unfortunately for your theory, the Satanic Temple is actually theistic and not LaVeyan. That is, these are guys who actually believe in a theistic satanism, or so they claim. Might also be a troll group, can't tell.
This is what the guy looks like.

Probably sold his soul to get them.
All hail the bringer of light!
Personally. I follow machine worship. I don't know why I get stared at strangely when I explain it. If not machine spirits, how else is your phone, smart?

You're asking what makes a phone able to process things?
They're a smartphone, are they not? I just believe in positive encouragement of devices. For if you don't properly maintain a machine, it falls into decay and becomes unusable, does it not? That is the machine spirit becoming angry at your unintentive behavior.

You basically have the jist of it.
The rituals are basically a satanists way of meditating and focusing our mind on a goal. Also, a satanist believes that man is selfish to his core, satanists themselves embrace that and use it to their advantage. Also, we don't actually believe Satan exists, but we worship what he represents. Self gratification and self preservation.
I've read a lot of Anton LaVey's (the founder of the Church of Satan) writings and they are very interesting from a psychological perspective. I really recommend reading The Satanic Bible. It opened my eyes to the religion, and it's really fun explaining the concept of being a "Religious Atheist" to creationists.

edit:
Fun fact, Anton LaVey used to teach a women's course on how to seduce men into giving them what they wanted.

you can't really be a "theistic satanist".
to do so you have to acknowledge that god will eventually overcome satan, and then still choose to support "him". who seriously tries to pick the losing side?

I don't know if that's better or worse
It still comes across as trollish.

They don't have to believe in the Judaic/Christian satan. Also, the Satanic Bible mentions a religion that worships the Judaic satan because they figure "Christ died for my sins so I've got my entry to heaven. Now let's worship the being that is in control of Earth"

This turns you into a shitty person. The goal should be to try and not be selfish instead of celebrating it like a prat.
