or how to piss off Ducktales fans.
"the story cutscenes are bad. oh but you can skip them but i'm going to complain about them for like half the review anyways!!!"
wow, the guy who does the review sounds like a giant fucking douche..
Hm but maybe that's just how he feels, but he is being very cynical about everything. It's looks like a really awesome game and I normally don't pay any interest to sidescrollers but this looks like something I'd enjoy playing.
Hm but maybe that's just how he feels, but he is being very cynical about everything.
Being like that all the time will just make you being negative about every game and nitpick for bad things in every game rather than enjoying it.
Looks like Gamespot's not the only site with a lukewarm review, but there are a fair few positive ones as well http://www.vg247.com/2013/08/12/ducktales-remastered-reviews-drop-get-the-scores-here/
The reviews will be split between "this isn't modern enough, there aren't enough features we take for granted ALSO SKIPPABLE CUTSCENES FUCK THAT" and "it's a pretty nice throwback platformer that plays well for what it does" tbh I think nobody needs to read a review to see whether or not they'd enjoy the game anyway, there's not a whole ton of information you need to know about it to make a decision
I've read the games harder than the original, would make sense if reviewers don't like hard games as it makes it harder for them to play through the game quickly and put out a review.
this review makes me want to pick it up, the limited lives and the cut scenes that explain environment and story look like they parallel how the series was setup.
After he said "Life was like a hurricane, what ever that means" at the beginning that he shouldn't have reviewed this. Also from the comments on Gamespot's site:
According to Mc Shea: - NBA2k12 and NBA2k211 are better than The Last of Us, Skyward Sword and FEZ. - Fable: The Journey is as good as The Last of Us and FEZ, but better than Skyward Sword and Monaco. - Madden NFL 13 and Madagascar 2 game are as good as Skyward Sword. And that's how McShea rolls! Trust his reviews at your own peril. :)
Sounds like McShea shouldn't be reviewing games.
I don't think you can compare games that have the same review scores. Saying "he thinks x is as good as y because he gave them both 9.5's" isn't a fair thing to do.

Saying "he thinks x is as good as y because he gave them both 9.5's" isn't a fair thing to do.
Actually I disagree, for it reveals his notion of quality. Just look at his NBA 2k12 review. One of his bad points clearly contradicts his "good points", yet he brushes off that bad point. He has clear biases in his reviews, to the point where he shouldn't be employed.

Saying "he thinks x is as good as y because he gave them both 9.5's" isn't a fair thing to do.
Why? It's what every other industry does, and its pretty much what everyone in the games industry does too. I personally say that scoring shouldn't happen in the first place. Once you start introducing scores, you welcome the ability to use that to compare that to another game as they all use the same numbering system (even if that game has nothing to do with another, or even in the same genre).
This guy is a fucking idiot, Duck Tales was good for its simple style of gameplay kinda of like Donkey Kong country but the difference was you go through the level trying to find as much treasure as you could. It does look like that new Duck Tales kind of goes for more of a story driven game which sounds cool cause it looks like the old cartoon.

Yes, in fact I did wonder how they were able to breathe on the moon.
Basic controls like moving side to side, jumping and bouncing on enemies heads makes it a boring game? Jeez, Mario must be shit then.
From what I've seen the only problems with the game are so-so voice acting and that the cutscenes are very slowly paced. And considering you can skip cutscenes if you don't care about the story of Scrooge McDuck trying to get his treasure back they become non-issues.
At first I thought it was an intentionally negative review to stir up controversy due to the backlash in this thread. But after watching the video I have to say that his opinion is valid, he felt that it just got a fresh coat of paint and a tacked on story, and he was disappointed that it didn't have any new gameplay innovations. And it's good to have a review that reflects the opinion of someone who want something new.
At the very least, it was obvious the game wasn't going to add wholly new content. We've known from the first reveals of gameplay footage that it wasn't gonna be some miracle merger of the first two games or anything like that, just the original game with some paint, tweaks to design, redone bosses, and a lot of cutscenes added ontop with the official voice actors onboard.
since i haven't played the original, this is a golden opporrtunity for me to play an old gaming gem. Is it also coming to steam, right?
A more honest and open review of sorts from the better site Gamespot 'helped set up'.

They remastered the graphics and added the story, Everything else was 100% true to the original game

what the heck is going on with the music playing behind the voice-over, somebody really isn't good at editing.
Like many other gamers, I only care about "paid-off" reviewers if they a) give a bad score to a game I don't like, reinforcing my negative opinion or b) give a game I like a bad score.

He contradicts himself several times, and focuses on something that is skipable.
Did you even watch his review? He contradicts himself several times, and focuses on something that is skipable.
Of course not, it's much easier to play the superiority card and sit alone chuckling to yourself at your wit(or lack thereof)!
I want to hear him review an old mario game. It's a side scroller. Not Half Life 2.
I want to hear him review an old mario game. It's a side scroller. Not Half Life 2.
He reviewed the re-release of the Simpsons Arcade Game: He gave it a 3 out of 10. His good points were: * Plays just like the arcade original. His bad: * Dull, uninspired action * Can be completed in 40 minutes * Weak unlockables * Few modern enhancements. This guy shouldn't be reviewing games.
