A man accused of stealing a handbag from a fatally injured woman trapped in the wreckage of a car on the NSW Central Coast has been refused bail, with police describing the alleged crime as "disgusting".
Kay Shaylor, a 62-year-old aged care nurse, suffered multiple injuries when two cars collided in North Gosford earlier this month.
She later died in hospital.
After being alerted to withdrawals from the woman's account after her death, investigators discovered her credit cards and cash had been stolen while she was trapped in the car, police said.
Officers said the cards were used to purchase food, cigarettes, alcohol and a fishing rod.
Police early yesterday arrested and charged Jason Hall, aged 42, and a woman, aged 44, with theft and fraud offences.
Hall showed little emotion as he was lead into Gosford Local Court today, but become agitated after bail was refused.
After screaming expletives at corrective services officers and kicking the dock he was taken from the courtroom.
Magistrate Robert Williams said Hall had a lengthy criminal history and non-compliance of court orders and this made granting bail impossible.
The court heard he was due to start chemotherapy for bowel cancer tomorrow.
Scummy.
Seems he will be the one dying soon.
I could sorta chock his actions up to a man who's reached his wits end if it wasn't for his prior record. But honestly he sounds like he's just a shitty person driven to do even shittier things due to his situation.
IDK that just seems scummy to steal stuff like that from a dying person instead of trying to help them. That said does this mean he'll not be allowed to begin chemo treatment the next day?
Oh he has bowel cancer? Well thats well fitting there...
