I think it's kinda funny that everyone was shocked and appalled by the fact that the flag wasn't at half mast when the state and national flags were because it physically could not be put at half mast, it was permanently affixed to the top :v:

That's hilarious.

Flagpole rigging isn't rocket science and given te wake of the attack keeping it flying high was completely disrespectful. Better to have it not fly at all rather than at full height
The reason the flag couldn't come down is because it was put up during the civil rights era as a "fuck you" to black people. The fact that it was a permanent fixture instead of a regular flagpole just amplified the fuck-you-ery.
Wait what, do you have a source on this? That's hilarious.
Common knowledge. It's illegal to move the flag except during a time of NATIONAL CRISIS, ect ect, so it's literally affixed,as it was as a fuck you to the CRM during segregation.
I hope they put it back up once the country stops collectively shitting itself over an old flag.
I hope they put it back up once the country stops collectively shitting itself over an old flag.
Yeah fuck everybody who's offended by a flag that was raised by angry racists with the specific intention of offending people.
Gotta admire her determination.
I hope they put it back up once the country stops collectively shitting itself over an old flag.
They are supposed to put it back up today because by law it's supposed to be up.
They are supposed to put it back up today because by law it's supposed to be up.
I need a bigger version of your avatar, jesus christ :v:
I need a bigger version of your avatar, jesus christ :v:
I was pissed I had to fucking shrink it because it's got a lot of nuance in it that's lost when it shrinks. It's supposed to offend everybody indiscriminately to the point of brain hemorrhaging.
I need a bigger version of your avatar, jesus christ :v:
A friend brought it up earlier: [t]http://i.imgur.com/2DWXfGR.jpg?2[/t]
A friend brought it up earlier: [t]http://i.imgur.com/2DWXfGR.jpg?2[/t]
Incredible. Now I can piss off everyone.
I hope they put it back up once the country stops collectively shitting itself over an old flag.
rather not, imo that flag has no business being flown by any government or public institution
Welcome to outrage culture.
Is it really edgy not to care about things now?
Is it really edgy not to care about things now?
A crazy racist shot up a church and now we're up in arms trying to stamp out the existence of a flag that he associated with. Is that not a little bit silly? [editline]27th June 2015[/editline] Not only that but our attempts to rid the country of the flag has only [thread=1473216]drawn out the extremists[/thread]. That church burning is our fault.
Okay we can't do a good thing because people might do a bad thing. good to know. Can we just keep the flag at memorials, cemeteries, and museums? It's pretty fucked up that it's still up at the capitol.
The fact that it takes something like a massacre to bring thisbabout is silly. Where was this level of outcry in January? Last year? Within the last 10 years? Don't get the wrong message from me here, but it seems to me that it's something to point the blame at. Trying to forget your history doesn't change it, and ifbidiots want to embrace it let them. It serves as a reminder that we're not a country of sun shine and rainbows.
The flag the activist took down was erected next to a memorial honoring fallen Confederate soldiers. It is a more historically accurate version of the Confederate battle flag than the one that was raised (and later removed) above the capitol in response to the Civil Rights Movement. At the time of the removal of the flag on top of the capitol this second flag was raised as a compromise in honoring the people who fought and died for their families rather than perpetuating the racist motives of the original flag atop the capitol. The activist is ignorant in removing the flag, as it is not a symbol of racism.
Not only that but our attempts to rid the country of the flag has only [thread=1473216]drawn out the extremists[/thread]. That church burning is our fault.
No. That church being burned is only the fault of the backwards fucks who burned it. Moreover, sitting around waiting for the extremists to die off clearly hasn't worked since somehow in the year 2015 there's still all of these racists, so perhaps it's a good thing to bring them to the surface so they can be dealt with and this country can progress.
Incredible. Now I can piss off everyone.
There's no Crescent Moon and Star, Cross, Flying Spaghetti Monster, A-Atom, Red Star, SS logo, or Hammer and Sickle, they're not trying nearly hard enough. [editline]27th June 2015[/editline]
rather not, imo that flag has no business being flown by any government or public institution
Especially considering the reason they put it there to begin with.

His manifesto has been spread like wildfire, his hatred is now being acted upon by different groups of people, and he has effectively caused all his hopes and dreams to manifest. The greatest irony of this all is that the people who complained that the Confederate flag was causing violence, have caused a greater amount of violence in trying to censor it. Seriously, you are no better.
No. That church being burned is only the fault of the backwards fucks who burned it.
I doubt they would have done it if we didn't go all anti-South on them over the Confederate Flag. Not only are you okay with trying to censor a flag because racists identify with it, but it's a good thing that churches are being burned because it means we get to lock up more racists? Tell that to the churchgoers, I'm sure they're so happy trading their faith for some petty revenge.

Shit-heads being prone to violence cause violence.
You are actively suggesting that people should be killed for a country to progress. Seriously, you are no better.
Don't presume dealt with equates to kill. This country has pretended that everything is perfectly fine and that there isn't still massive prejudices throughout the country. This mentality makes it easy for those prejudices to survive and be passed down because there's no significant pressback by society at large. If the country as a whole doesn't talk about this issue then how are the impressionable young going to gain a perspective beyond that of their parents on these issues? Bringing this issues into the light through the actions of the extremist portions of those who hold such prejudices starts discussions which is a step forward. It also hopefully results in more extremists ending up in prison.
I doubt they would have done it if we didn't go all anti-South on them over the Confederate Flag.
This has nothing to do with the "south" except that some portion of southerners seem to want to live in days of confederacy, then again so do people all across the country.
This "Greater Good" mentality is horrific, too. The point is, if these people are so fucking unstable that they go burn down churches over a flag then it was only a matter of time till something set them off; the sooner they are arrested the better off the whole country will be. This country has been ignoring the racial tensions that continue to exist even after "officially" racial segregation was eliminated; it was bound to boil over at some point, and it has been in fits and spurts around the various police shootings and now this.

I'm ok with this. Sucks she got arrested though.
Let's remove all flags then, 'cos just about every flag has been used in a racist or bigoted way, just so happens everyone's getting their panties in a twist over a flag that wasn't even representing slavery in most cases.
