This is what most stealth games I have played are like.
Invisible parts of collision meshes are the bane of my fucking existence in Fallout: New Vegas.
I seriously have to quicksave everytime I take a shot around a corner because invisible bits have gotten me shot to death so many times.
99% of my Deus Ex 1 experience.
Just replace that crossbow with a grenade.

Do you really need to hide behind a corner? With enough sneak, you can basically stand in any enemy's line of sight

He's actually going to activate an alarm that's around the corner of that door

This is a pretty new character, and I'm running Project Nevada which makes sneaking harder and fucks around with the detection AI.
Once I had a thick wall between me and an escaped convict and I was in the darkness and yet he kept flipping between suspicious and calm until he eventually stumbled right into the corner where I was hiding.
TL;DR: Hell no I can't just fucking stand right in front of someone, these fuckers are paranoid as hell.
