A Finnish anti-piracy group has copied the design of The Pirate Bay website for their latest anti-piracy campaign. The Pirate Bay is outraged by this move and says it will sue the group for breaking their site policy, which clearly states that organizations are not permitted to steal the site design for nefarious purposes. “People must understand what is right and wrong,” The Pirate Bay says.
-Just realized how long this post was with all the edits-
I still dont get why people were so specifically outraged about the Whinnie the Pooh laptop thing. Yes, it's dumb that they bust in with police rather than sending a letter, but it's not like they're checking to make sure that they're breaking X little girls hearts a week.
Anyways, I'm surprised that TPB doesn't notice the immense irony of this, they're asking for €5000 plus fees
There's no way they can't notice. They have to be laughing their asses off saying 'joke's on them' in their offices over this every day.

I think that's exactly why they're suing.
I think its fucking hilarious.
I don't know which is more ironic.
Who the hell thought this was a good idea?
Either way ThePirateBay is winning, in this case by proving how flawed the copyright & trademark system is.

It is. In Sweden, they got the law on their side.

Edit; Oh, Torrentfreak, no wonder they're trying to make the Anti-Piracy guys out to be Saturday morning cartoon villains. Please consider sources of bias when posting articles, you wouldn't accept the Daily Mail
Also, I realize it's mostly a joke/way to point out how broken the copyright system is, but really it makes them look entitled as if everything must bend to their will. Personally, I hope they win the lawsuit since stolen stuff is stolen stuff, but I think it's going to be ba for them in the long run
It is clearly a joke
TPB, while not run by the same guys anymore, has always had a special kind of humor

In fact it's hard not to get the gist here
> Harcore copyright lobby group copies design without asking
> An organisation notorious for not respecting copyright laws sues over copyright claim
it's quite funny

Seems like a good idea to me, TPB has always made a mockery of IP and copyright laws.

I'd say suing for €5000+ (at least thats the fee, not sure about the suit) is an extreme joke, and I'd also say that the copyright group meant for this to happen. If they lose (which I hope they will, they stole the design w/out permission) then they get precedent that copyright actually matters. And all its going to cost them is 1 lawsuit. What would TPB gain from winning, other than some cash right now
They won't lose, because TPB haven't filed a suit and never will

That's exactly it; the system allows criminals to steal licensed content and redistribute it, then when someone copy's their brand/image build on criminal activities, they can sue the shit out of them.
Sheer brilliance!
I love the quotes from the pirate bay.
I'm cutting the irony into bits with an invisible chainsaw it's so thick.
