A report on the KCNA news agency said the man had entered North Korea on 29 April, but was detained as he was leaving the country.
The report said he has been questioned, but gave no more details. Japanese agency Kyodo said the tourist was held because he left a Bible at a hotel.
I highlighted that sentence because if true the guy is retarded. Everyone knows that they flip shit if you do ANYTHING that could disrupt the power of authority. Why the fuck would you bring a bible to North Korea?
He should have known not to leave his bible at a hotel... because NK is legitimately crazy and will arrest you if you so much as sniff the wrong way.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let this guy get out without being injured AT ALL and at MOST within a week though.
just because someones christian or jewish or muslim or whatever shouldn't mean anything and won't in most other places, but, NK is just ass backwards mentally insane paranoia schizophrenia bad.
The real question is why would you go to north korea?
The real question is why would you go to north korea?
Because seeing Asian Chernobyl is fun for people.
The real question is why would you go to north korea?
At least with the example of VICE, documentation of an otherwise unknown location. This guy may have been a journalist or a missionary, which either way is risky but has enough of a reason I suppose. Missionary though is a bit more... hated.
with journalists NK is a gold mine for a documentary. I could probably count the number of documentaries on NK on one hand or maybe both

Might as well try stepping on rusty nails tomorrow.
The real question is why would you go to north korea?
It's the only place left where you can get the authentic feel of what life was like in the Soviet Union.
It's the only place left where you can get the authentic feel of what life was like in the Soviet Union.
This is actually why I want to visit it, it'd be like stepping into a time machine to the shittiest place in the world in the '70s, and I think that'd be absolutely fascinating.
Might as well try stepping on rusty nails tomorrow.
More like gawking at other people stepping on rusty nails.
North Korea uses the arrested Americans as diplomatic bargaining chips.
Never go to North Korea.
The real question is why would you go to north korea?
For the fun of it. It's like going to Cancun: Relax, don't talk to the locals and stick with the travel package.
Why the hell do you think I'm going there?
VICE's guide to Best Korea was as much as I could stand of the place. If the rest of the world was irradiated from world war 3 and NK was the only one spared, I'd take my chances with the radiation.

I don't know about you but I can't relax whenever I'm in a country like that, that does shit like this
Never go to North Korea.
All countries do that.

If they're at war / hate a country, of course.

You sure that's why?
DaCommie1
He should've known not to take such belongings into North Korea, they are anal about them, as somebody else said few posts above.
"Hmm, what should I take to my trip to NK to kill some time in the hotek? Probably something that doesn't raise any suspicions... yep, Bible, that's it" :v
The real question is why would you go to north korea?
I really want to go there simply because it's such a strange odd country and the fact that it is pretty much has an authentic soviet union feel, I wish I was born earlier to visit the USSR when it was in its prime but oh well
It would be interesting to go see what it's like there.
But I wouldn't like to stay there got any extended periods of time.

Don't worry, Putin has USSRv2 well underway, just wait a few more years.

I'd think some places in Eastern Europe would be the better choice. Like that poor little country under control of Moldova, but with military from Russia?
Transnistria is extremely difficult to get into IIRC
people have fun experiencing new things
What like cavity searches, interrogation and North Korean "hospitality?"
why in the hell would people want to go to North Korea in the first place?
The real question is why would you go to north korea?
Dancing too close to the fire without underwear
is what feels like its a good comparison to going to NK

Or you could not go and avoid giving the corrupt government even more tourism money.
Or you could not go and avoid giving the corrupt government even more tourism money.
Depends. Tourism is a way to open up a country and make it more dependent on foreign income.
Look at Egypt for instance. Being a tourist hotspot and relatively open and dependent on foreign income, it was also a place to fall to revolution early on.
Holy shit:
US-Korean missionary Kenneth Bae was arrested in November 2012 and is serving 15 years of hard labour after being convicted of trying to overthrow the government.

"Hey America! i'll trade you my Blue Eyes White American for your warheads"
"that's a shitty trade fuck off North Korea"
