James Bond star Daniel Craig has surprised UK troops at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan by coming to visit them as they prepared to watch his latest film.
Some 800 soldiers, sailors and airmen were waiting for a screening of Skyfall when the 007 star arrived.
Craig was given a tour of the camp after a brief introduction of the latest Bond film to the audience.
He met soldiers and saw some of the training they undergo before they deploy to forward operating bases.
The star was driven around the camp in a Foxhound vehicle by Warrant Officer Class 1 Rob Ingham.
"We get quite a lot of visitors here, but having James Bond was special," said WO1 Ingham.
"He seemed to be pretty comfortable in the driving seat."
At the weapons range Craig was given the chance to fire some of the machine guns used by UK forces.
He also met staff and patients at the Camp Bastion hospital.
Pte Scott Craggs, 23, from Newcastle, a combat medical technician said: "It was really good morale for everyone - it's a decent thing for him to take time to come out and visit everyone here."
The star's final stop was a demonstration of the techniques used to search for bombs and he used the detectors himself to search for buried training devices.[/quote]
Think this was a pretty decent thing of him to do, watched the film last night and thought it was damn good too.
Craig might not be as iconic as the older bonds but I think he's still a good guy and he was pretty great in Skyfall.

I think he's done a great job of redefining bond
My favorite bond is still Pierce Brosnan, but Daniel Craig ain't a bad actor.
I miss the Gentleman Agent, but as said above he does a good job in his own way too.

I grew up with Pierce, i always felt from it that bond was just "an action flick" much like expendables. Craig showed me otherwise.
I grew up with the Pierce Brosnan films, and looking back at them, I much prefer Daniel Craig and the style of films he plays bond in.
Nice of him to do such a thing.

Nonetheless he's the most iconic looking one.
You guys are wearing nostalgia goggles if you think that Pierce is better than Daniel.

I don't feel nostalgia towards Pierce. But come on, he looks a lot more like a gentleman agent than Daniel, he's looking more like a action man/mercenary type, and not an elegant classy killer.
I think Daniel does a great twist on Bond, he is more of a go and do it like a man, also more brutal, he is a good choice after Brosnan.
Is it possible to bulk buy the entire set of all Bond episodes/movies etc?

I dunno, to me his appearance just looked too soft for a special agent, atleast Brosnam had a suave and mysterious quality to him, a "man of mystery" if you will.
Daniel Craig is a cool dude but I don't think he should have been chosen for bond, and I think the tone and new direction of the bond movies kind of ruins what bond is about IMO. I want to see another suave corny 60s style bond again please. With interesting villans and henchmen and all of that.
I hope daniel craig steps on a landmine and it blows both of his talentless legs off
