• The US Healthcare system has fucked me over

I've got school in about 20 minutes so I'm going to cut this short. I'm basically uninsured, I mean sure I have blue cross but it does not cover anything in my area. To visit a doctor that they will 'cover' I have to drive an hour and a half away. My dad is unemployed (Michigan sucks atm) and my mother is dead, my step mom is a nurse and we barely scrape by, I have tried getting on my step mom's plan but I'm not her biological son so therefore I guess I don't fucking matter as far as the insurance companies care. I goto football practice and I'm running the ball, get hit pretty hard and I dislocate my shoulder, it popped back in when I stood up and holy shit I almost passed out from the pain it was so intense. Fast forward to 4 days later, I can barely move my arm still, luckily I still have a sling from a few years back so I immobilize my arm and try to take care of it. I tell my parents what happened and they would take me to the hospital but they simply can't pay for it. I'm pretty sure I tore my rotator cuff but I can't do jack shit about it because blue cross doesn't "cover" anything the hospital does around here. Meaning my parents would have probably close to a $5,000 bill for an MRI, X-Ray, I'd probably need physical therapy, and god fucking forbid I need surgery that would be probably another $5,000 on top of it all. So basically I'm fucked, I really wish that America had universal health care because this isn't the first time these things have happened. I've broken multiple fingers, I've been sick as a fucking dog and all I get to treat it with is some anti-biotics we saved from the last visit. fuck.
If you have to travel, then travel, gas is cheaper.
Yeah.. American health care system is a big disappointment, i have to agree. Hope you get better soon and that it's not too serious.
Don't be stupid, bluesky. America's medical system is the best in the world! It's not like you want to have some terrible, terrible socialist medical system, right? You're not a fucking communist are you?! You know that none of that socialist, communist red bullshit works, right? You'll be stuck on a waiting list for the rest of your life if you change your system to be like the UK. I'd know, because I'm definitely more intelligent and knowledgeable than the entirety of the World Health Organisation who every year consistently rate the UK's medical system to be better than the US's!
Well the patriotic thing to do would be to keel over and die.
Well the patriotic thing to do would be to keel over and die.
Exactly. If you can't afford it then I guess people shouldn't get sick
http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1124963 if you support the tea party, do what Jabberwocky said [editline]14th September 2011[/editline] also, feel for you bro, have a heart. <3
Well the patriotic thing to do would be to keel over and die.
Close, the patriotic thing would be to hold out and vote Republican, then keel over and die. [editline]14th September 2011[/editline] Also come to Canada, plenty of room here bud.
Come to Australia. We have a shortage of nurses, and universal health cover. You wouldn't have that 'not biological son' issue here isn't, as it based on whether you're dependent on her or not. Gas is more expensive though.

It's still a very good system though, but would be much nicer if all healthcare was free.
My understanding was that if you were receiving government benefits the nominal costs were waived?
Oh, well I'm not sure about that part. My family owns too many assets (if you consider around 200 acres of land to be too much) so we've never been able to claim government benefits, so I wasn't sure about that in relation to Medicare. Would make sense though.
-snip- nothing but contradictory information on the net
As you've mentioned, I think it depends on whether or not you claim benefits
In-hospital services Public Patient If you choose to be admitted as a public (Medicare) patient in a public hospital, you will receive treatment by doctors and specialists nominated by the hospital. You will not be charged for care and treatment, or after-care by the treating doctor.
[editline]14th September 2011[/editline]
Oh, well I'm not sure about that part. Get a job you dirty scum, if you can't afford healthcare then you don't matter enough to keep alive!!! Hope you die!!
You'd probably have private health insurance anyway.
We don't have private health insurance actually, and I know that's a definite because only two weeks ago when I saw my GP in relation to a certain problem, the visit was paid off by Medicare (my mother's card). My family isn't that well off financially I should mention.
Join the military. Free healthcare. It can't be that hard to find a minimum wage job at the least. Get out of that shitty state. Michigan has always been shitty.
In Sweden, pretty much everything is free for everyone. However, we pay a lot of taxes (~35-55% depending on income).
Great example of capitalism right there folks,we all need socialistic goverments
The government shouldn't be capitalist. The economy should.
I guess it's pretty hard to make enough money in some parts of the US now. I've always heard stories of people like police officers that have extra jobs in their spare time. That just wouldn't happen in the better part of Europe. I find it hard to imagine what it would be like to live in a place you can't get medical attention because it's too expensive.
medical tourism fuck yeah
Jesus christ, I didn't think it was that bad. The unemployment sounds like fucking Cuba to me. Move to Estonia? Seriously theres tons of jobs here as long as you are not a complete fuckwit who doesn't know the difference between Obama and George Clooney.
I would go to the hospital and just don't pay the bill, tons of people do it. Does not mean it is right, but it is better then being sick or even losing all function in your arm. Even if you have to go back again they can't refuse to treat you.
Jesus christ, I didn't think it was that bad. The unemployment sounds like fucking Cuba to me.
It's funny because Cuba has socialized healthcare
I mean sure I have blue cross but it does not cover anything in my area.
I knew the whole private health insurance thing was terrible but you're telling me that there are actually places in the US where you physically CANNOT be covered? What the fucking fuck
I would agree with you guys about the healthcare, but with 50% of the nation not paying any sort of tax, the next issue becomes the other 50% paying for everything...
I knew the whole private health insurance thing was terrible but you're telling me that there are actually places in the US where you physically CANNOT be covered? What the fucking fuck
They call it "pre-existing conditions", and they do it all the time. Like my mom who has COPD and my stepdad who has diabetes, they refuse to cover them, and even if they didn't they'd raise the price. Where does that money go when they die? They keep it. Just an example of why our country is fucked up.
1. Move to Canada 2. Problem solved
