There are 25 files, comprising more than 6,700 pages, that include UFO policy, parliamentary questions, media issues, public correspondence and, of course, UFO sighting reports. Overall, more than 10,000 UFO reports came through the special Ministry of Defense unit from 1950 to 2009. "These are probably the most fascinating and bizarre government files ever made available to the public," said Nick Pope, who was the UFO Desk officer from 1991 to 1994. "There's massive public interest in UFOs, and at one point, the MoD was getting more Freedom of Information Act requests about UFOs than any other subject," Pope told The Huffington Post in an email. "The files contain the usual mixture of policy documents, sighting reports, photos, sketches and papers discussing how best to handle the subject with Parliament, the media and the public." A recent Huffington Post story included statements from former undercover CIA officer Chase Brandon, who said that in the 1990s, he found a box labeled "Roswell" at CIA headquarters in Langley, Va. Brandon said there was information in that box that was related to the alleged 1947 UFO crash outside of Roswell, N.M. "The question of whether or not we're alone in the universe is one of the biggest and most profound questions we can ask," said Pope. "People are fascinated with the idea that we might have been visited, and these files chart MoD's attempts to grapple with the subject." There is much more to be revealed about the U.K. files, including how Prime Minister Tony Blair was briefed on UFO sightings in 1998, and how the efforts of David Clarke of Sheffield Hallam University were instrumental in getting the MoD to release the UFO files to the public. The UFO files are available to be viewed by the public for free for one month.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/12/uk-ufo-x-files_n_1668444.html The introduction of the files: Here's some of the Highlights:
Blue Streak Missile Launch and 'Spaceman' Sighting [REDACTED] stated that during testing of the Blue Streak missile at Woomera South Australia in 1964, one of the launches was aborted because a 'spaceman' was seen in the vicinity of the launch site. She also stated that although most of the film of the Blue Streak tests is avaliable to the public, one reel which contains the aborted launch footage has been withheld from the public domain. The implication was that all the Blue Streak missile test film is held by the PRO for public viewing except the footage of the aborted launch. Examination of the files has shown that [REDACTED] use of the material at the PRO was to say the least selective.

Unexplained Lights Early in the morning of 27 Dec 80 (approximately 0300L), two USAF security police patrolmen saw unusual lights outside the back gate at RAF Woodbridge. Thinking an aircraft might have crashed or been forced down, they called for permission to go outside the gate to investigate. The on-duty flight chief responded and allowed three patrolmen to proceed on foot. The individuals reported seeing a strange glowing object in the forest. The object was described as being metallic in appearance and triangular in shape, approximately two to three meters across the base and approximately two meters high. It illuminated the entire forest with a white light. The object itself had a pulsing red light on top and a bank(s) of blue lights underneath. The object was hovering or on legs. As patrolmen approached the object, it maneuvered through the trees and disappeared. At this time the animals on a nearby farm went into a frenzy. The object was briefly sighted approximately an hour later near the back gate.

Unexplained Sonic Event [REDACTED]of the British Geological Survey in Edinburgh stated that on the 24 Mar 97 at 2152Z his seismic monitors had recorded a signal consistent with a sonic event. A further signal consistant with a sonic event were recorded at 2206Z. These signals were monitored as coming from the area reported as the complaint location and monitoring stations at Haverah Park, south west of Huddersfield, Holmfirth, south west of Leeds and a low frequency microphone at Leeds University all recorded the sonic event. AIS (MIL) at West Drayton were tasked with providing radar evidence and by pure coincidence the radar tape for the 24 Mar 97 was still in existence having already been impounded for another unconnected investigation. The tape was viewed between 242130Zmar97 and 242200ZMar97, using the Claxby and Great Dun Fell radar heads. The recording reveals that at a 2139Z, a sqwuak of 2574/143(Orcam/Karlshrue) in descent heading west. At 2145 : 09Z 2574/048 passes to the north by 2run of the plotted position and the aircraft lands at Manchester at 2154Z. The Air Information Service Officer is of the opinion that this aircraft appears to be too slow moving to cause a sonic boom and no other aircraft were seen flying in the area

‘Men in Black’ visitation (DEFE24/2089/1 p471) A member of the public from Spalding, Lincolnshire who had reported a UFO encounter to police, later went on to receive a late night visit from three tall men dressed in black suits who “seemed to move silently”, according to a friend who witnessed the visit whilst hiding in the downstairs toilet. The men apparently broke in through the back door, before entering the bedroom of the UFO witness and having a conversation, the content of which was not overheard. The “petrified” friend locked themselves in the toilet until „men in black‟ left in a black Jaguar soon afterwards. When asked afterwards, the UFO witness did not recall seeing any „men in black‟ or encountering a UFO in the first place.

Alien Abduction in Scotland (DEFE 31/189/1 p360-61) A report submitted to MoD in August 1992 by two men described a UFO seen over the A70 which “dropped a curtain of light across the road”. The men later underwent regression hypnosis and an alien abduction story emerged. This story is the basis of a feature film to be released later this year
There's a lot of interesting material in here. Many of the reported sightings are simple aircraft sightings, but there's quite a few incidents involving military personel that neither they nor the UK government can explain, with huge portions that have been redacted. There's also documents that show the military trying to weaponize alien technology, and various government officials worrying that aliens might come here for 'holiday.' Overall there's plenty of interesting reading material and I'm sure the most interesting bits haven't been found yet. The UFO Files: http://ufos.nationalarchives.gov.uk/
Staff Meeting: "Jim, what is the status on the aliens?" "Still no aliens sir." "Alright then..to keep our paychecks, let's imagine what it would be like to have aliens and then write a report about it."
sounds like a fun bit of reading material
so when can i get a noisy cricket
Of course we would weaponize it if we did have the power to harness alien technology. How about instead, we harness it to make the world a better place. Rhetorically speaking
Wait, the MIB doesn't have any government ties? Doesn't that technically make them a secret society then? :tinfoil:
Of course we would weaponize it if we did have the power to harness alien technology. How about instead, we harness it to make the world a better place. Rhetorically speaking
We weaponise it because we think every other country would weaponise it, and every other country is thinking the same thing
Oh jesus my biggest life dream is coming true! I'm moving to the UK and joining the M.I.B to hunt aliens while getting called "Slick" indiscriminately. [SUB](I've already got my shades ready.) [/SUB]
I love that statement at the end of the video he makes about the probability of the occurrences.
Of course we would weaponize it if we did have the power to harness alien technology. How about instead, we harness it to make the world a better place. Rhetorically speaking
This is the government we are talking about here. Not people with brains.
obviously just a conspiracy theory everyone move along [editline]16th July 2012[/editline] obligatory mass effect reference post
Of course we would weaponize it if we did have the power to harness alien technology. How about instead, we harness it to make the world a better place. I don't get it. How can you weaponize swamp gas?
You also have to wonder how much they're holding back with this release. You know, to quiet the conspiracy theorists and stuff. There's some really interesting stuff in here but I bet they're saving the really juicy stuff.
I don't get it. How can you weaponize swamp gas?
Well, it involves hot air balloons..
You also have to wonder how much they're holding back with this release. You know, to quiet the conspiracy theorists and stuff. The first thing they think when they hear, "we're not alone in the universe" is "let's weaponize anything we find"

This is so stupid. They are speculating about something that has a happening probability of like 0.000000000001% or something when instead you could use the money and workforce for much more important problems.
I almost wonder if they write stuff like this just to freak people out. The government documents that is, not the news articles.
You also have to wonder how much they're holding back with this release. You know, to quiet the conspiracy theorists and stuff. I was watching some stupid "documentary" on what would happen if aliens really did invade and all this shit and at one stage they actually had someone appear saying that the various defence departments of the world actually had plans if we were invaded that involved tying suicide bombers to helium balloons and floating into alien ships.
Sure is some interesting stuff in here: Also there's several sections called 'Visiting Forces' that have been completely redacted.
Of course we would weaponize it if we did have the power to harness alien technology. How about instead, we harness it to make the world a better place. Rhetorically speaking
Why would the Ministry of Defense do that? Take into account that this is for the possibility of finding alien tech, meaning aliens with the capacity to travel to our world, we would weaponize their tech for the case where the aliens might not turn out to have friendly intentions. Not to mention other countries would do the same.
This is so stupid. Most intelligence agencies go through just about every possible scenario and what the government is going to do about it. I guarantee you when the whole Occupy Wall St. thing happened the government had a plan on what would they would do if X happened or if Y happened. So it's no surprise there's detailed reports and plans on both UFO sightings and what the government would do in the event of a first contact scenario. Also you have to realize UFO doesn't just encompass aliens, it's literally any unidentified flying object including that of other countries. And UFOs of other countries is a big priority on the "I want to know what the fuck you're doing" scale for intelligence agencies.
Why would the Ministry of Defense do that? They'd be doing the same thing for anything else.
Also there's several sections called 'Visiting Forces' that have been completely redacted.
that's... kind of creepy. I'd like to say it's probably nothing, and it really is probably nothing, but why did they redact it? they must have been fooled somehow.
that's... kind of creepy. I'd like to say it's probably nothing, and it really is probably nothing, but why did they redact it? they must have been fooled somehow.
By the name of it, it's probably a section on what to do if hostile alien ground forces invaded. Probably redacted because(and I'm just pulling this out of my ass) it probably included some contingency measures that people would not be fine with(ex. nuking cities or nuking other countries as preventive measures), I'm sure other countries wouldn't like to know that if hostile aliens invaded, the first kind of aid they get is a nuke to the face.
but why did they redact it?
There's probably something in there that the Government does not want us to know about. Does it contain records of contact with alien visitors? Probably not. But like you said, why else would they redact it?
