• Belarusian man seeks damages from Russian media for offending Belarus
    8 replies, posted
A citizen has filed a law suit against three news agencies over the use of the word ‘Belorussia’, an outdated term he claims is an affront to his honour and dignity. “I am a citizen of a state with an official name – the Republic of Belarus”, he told the court, adding the calling his country ‘Belorussia’ is offensive to him personally and his fellow citizens. He has requested the news agencies to remove references to the word and to award him 14,000 rubles (£226) in damages. There are domestic Belarusians who use the term Belorussia, so he'll have a fun time with the "fellow citizens" bit.
Oh shit in my language Belarus is Belorusija i gon be sued
Hviderusser. Come at me, bro!
Given that you can sue for just about anything nowadays why would anybody be surprised? He can file whatever case he wants to but frankly it'll be thrown out and he'll be out of pocket for pulling this stunt. Probably might even look at some jail time if the judge is particularly annoyed.
It's "Bielorussia" in Portuguese, as close as it can get to that, boy oh boy if he finds out [editline]3rd September 2014[/editline]
£226
oh man, that's it? What an idiot
But they're just variants of the same name?
He's got to be doing that just for the sake of banter.
I hope he wins just for the sake of hilarity.
