Just two days ago, on the 13th of June, Steam Forum user ryuuk posted a thread titled: “Half-Life 3 is officially confirmed!”. The opening post read as follows:
Mike Dussault, a long time programmer at Valve, recently left the company. I didn’t know him until last week. Let me introduce myself. I’m a freelance artist. I do contract work for a studio in Seattle, through the internet. They have a client access system on their site. I came across Dussault’s resume, while browsing the files section. Now, I know you’re all curious about Valve’s in-house development, but I’m only going to talk about the Half-Life series.
According to his resume, Episode Three was put on hold when Valve decided to move away from the episodic model in late 2007, right after Episode Two’s release. He was a techinal advisor on a cancelled Half-Life title, made outside of the company. Dussault’s work on Half-Life 3′s world programming, and the scripting system (between 2008 and 2010) is also mentioned in the resume.
And here is a screencap of the thread as it looked back then, for any non-believers. Ignore the watermark.
So, what makes this particular case interesting? Surely it’s just another troll having his daily dose of laughs with the Half-Life fanbase? Well, what is interesting is that the thread in question was completely deleted not long after it was posted, and ryuuk was permanently banned from the Steam Forums. I don’t know about you, but this sounds a bit strange to me. If this really was just a trolling attempt, then why was ryuuk permanently banned, and the thread completely deleted?
In addition, it turns out that Mike Dussault is a real person, and has in fact left Valve. He had been with the company for over 10 years. He left in September of last year, which fits the development timeline that is in this supposed resume (“2008-2010″). He was then working with Dreamfly, a non-profit organization, right up until April. So ryuuk had one detail spot on in this story.
I wouldn't be anticipating anything yet, but I wouldn't doubt if Valve was going straight to Half-Life 3.
:tinfoil:
Pretty obvious it was going to be Half Life 3.
Who didn't think that?
I didn't see that coming.

The guy only has ten posts. Of course, that doesn't really mean anything, considering he could have just been smart enough to not associate himself much with the forum. :v:
I saw this coming
:woop:
I want to believe, but it is probably lies :smithicide:
Half-Life 3 will be the first Valve game released with a three in the title.
[sp]If it's ever released[/sp]
They are renaming it to Half-Life 2+1
I haven't even played episodes one or two yet.
Still, neat.
Duke Nukem Forever, and then this. :v:
The article suggests that it's been quietly in development since 2008.
Oh fuck yes.
Aw, :ninja:

just to reiterate, the post was deleted and the user was perma-banned afterwards, so if it was a troll it wouldn't have caused such a immediate response from valve.
I WANT TO BELIEVE!
I bet Valve is hunting down ryuuk (or Mike) right now
In development since 2008 eh?
From Valve eh?
Boys this looks like its gonna be a good game.
We have no evidence to believe that this is real or fake yet; all we have is just a good troll who studied this.

Let's not jump to conclusions
I saw the thread title and shat myself, and then I saw the actual thread.

The whole thing is a bit suspicous isnt it?
The mods on SPUF are slow as hell when dealing with trolls, this had to be real, I doubt they're just delete a thread and permanently ban someone over one troll post.
Who knows? All I know is that I feel really sorry for Valve, but Valve is also really lucky. It's still a secret.
I was expecting LulzSec to do some shitty hack and announce it.

you can't get anything but usernames and passwords from a simple SQL injection, which is the only thing they can do
Eh, just because articles say "No Half-Life 2: Episode 3 this year" on a yearly basis doesn't mean we can never see a Half-Life game...
Funny because the whole Half-Life 3 thing would be contradicting an interview with Gabe done a week ago.

Before you ask, Kutta's a programmer with a crazy surname, who led the PS3 port of Source.
A quick summary:

They unapologetically dodge all Half-Life questions. When mentioning the next game off-hand, however, they always say "Episode 3".

It's bullshit, come on Facepunch you know better than to believe one post on a forum known for trolling.
Funny because the whole Half-Life 3 thing would be contradicting an interview with Gabe done a week ago.
Maybe because they don't want anyone knowing they're really working on HL3 :downs:

To be fair they could just call it that all the time because it's what HL fans have gotten used to. Besides, wouldn't them saying Half-Life 3 be letting the cat out of the bag anyway?
I was expecting LulzSec to do some shitty hack and announce it.
i am still thinking lulz sec will do it, possibly give us more info, or even leak it.
god damn, if they leak it, wed have to wait another 4 god damn years.
gayben probably isn't happy
