DETROIT - DDOT bus Jeanne Dorado describes her first ride on a Detroit Department of Transportation bus as "out-of-control, ridiculous." Dorado moved to the city from Minneapolis this past Wednesday. She says she encountered one disgruntled bus driver the next day. "Being new to the city, I asked the driver for some help, asking him how far down Woodward he would go," she said. Siscily Ware watched it all go down. "He was like, 'B***, I'm the mother-******* Mack bus,'" Ware said. Dorado says the bus driver then threatened her. "He was saying that he was going to take me on the ride of my life and then drop my b*** a** on the east side, which being new I don't even know what that means," Dorado said. At that point she was scared and just trying to get off of the bus. "I called 911 to report that I had been kidnapped because he closed the doors behind me and he refused to let me off," she said. Finally, the bus stopped at Mack Avenue and St. Antoine Street. According to witnesses, that's when the bus driver snapped. "He got out of his seat," said Ware. "And he was like, 'What?!?' And he got up from his seat -- the bus was still in motion -- and he backhanded me with his right hand," Dorado said. "He slapped her," said Ware. "And he kept swinging and somebody standing closer to him at the front of the bus grabbed him," said Dorado. Ware said the bus was moving the entire time. "Man, get the bus 'cause the bus steady going!" she said. Ware pulled Dorado to safety. She is pressing charges and sharing her story about the one wild ride on a DDOT bus. "This isn't exemplary of what I've experience in Detroit. it just was unfortunately a really bad incident of a man who snapped," said Dorado. Dorado said she is no longer riding the bus.
Source. There is a video in the source, I will post it here once I find a youtube version of it. UPDATE: Dave and Chuck the Freak, our local morning show, decided to give her a limo ride to work:
"He was saying that he was going to take me on the ride of my life and then drop my b*** a** on the east side, which being new I don't even know what that means," Dorado said.
Just gonna make a REALLY wild guess here but maybe he meant the east side of the city?
Jeez, you would think with the unemployment rate in that city, anyone with a job would be trying to keep it. [editline]5th September 2013[/editline]
Just gonna make a REALLY wild guess here but maybe he meant the east side of the city?
But what is the east side? Is it residential? Industrial park? Ghetto? Maybe it's slang for somewhere else and not actually the east side?
She means like what makes the east side special (could also just be her thinking it might be some special slang), and I don't know myself, but I'm assuming that's the really shitty/gang populated side of the city?
Stay classy Detroit.
Just gonna make a REALLY wild guess here but maybe he meant the east side of the city?
Long-time residents of the city might identify a certain "side" as the shit hole that's likely to end with you being shanked. A newcomer not so much.
Okay, fair enough, it kind of slipped my mind. Back on topic, this is what happens when you truly TRULY stop giving a shit any more.
"I called 911 to report that I had been kidnapped because he closed the doors behind me and he refused to let me off," HA! Like they're going to give a flying about Mrs. Havin' a rough bus ride. If she wasn't so new to Detroit, and literally all aspects of the city she is now LIVING IN; she would know that where she lives now - the police are no longer a reliable lifeline. Modern day America... On a silver platter Edit: If you don't think there are problems with police force numbers, and response times in Detroit - than you should probably think a little harder.

Bringing up the phone call, according to her interview with the Dave and Chuck the Freak Show this morning, 911 hung up on her, thinking she was making it up.
I'm glad that i don't know you in person.
Me neither. "Dorado moved to the city from Minneapolis this past Wednesday. She says she encountered one disgruntled bus driver the next day." Is that because your the type of person that moves from one safe place to another not safe place.. expecting to be safe? That's like going to the fridge, opening it up to get a non-carbonated drink, instead grabbing a Pepsi, than wondering why your drink was so fucking fizzy. I'm not saying what happened to this woman was in any way right, or the way she was treated is morally justified in any way.. But although this may be headline news in your small town, this is peanuts to the incredibly understaffed Detroit Police force, and the fact that she moved there with little to no knowledge of the place, or any of its happenings is foolish. My first day commuting in Detroit would not be spent asking for directions.. or standing out in ANY way for that matter.. Mrs. Dorado would have been far better off with a little planning, and really should have known she is no longer in safe Minneapolis..
what the fuck are you saying
I'm saying I think you'd like Detroit, it's a nice place, you should give it a shot.
'B***, I'm the mother-******* Mack bus,'
I never thought I'd ever hear anything like this
'B***, I'm the mother-******* Mack bus,'
three asterisks? 'Bitc, I'm the mother-fucking Mack bus,'
I'm saying I think you'd like Detroit, it's a nice place, you should give it a shot.
you havent been here for a while obviously but in every detroit news story you can see me making fun of how much of a shithole the city is. i feel bad for the people living there and they should get out before they catch tetanus and AIDS
three asterisks? 'Bitc, I'm the mother-fucking Mack bus,'
maybe he said boob. some people get offended at that word.
People still move into Detroit? :v:
Detroit suburbs aren't that bad and the houses are like incredibly cheap. edit: literally nice huge 6 bedroom homes for 60,000. It's insane.
Detroit suburbs aren't that bad and the houses are like incredibly cheap. edit: literally nice huge 6 bedroom homes for 60,000. It's insane.
Yeah but its Detroit. The houses are cheap for a reason.
Yeah but its Detroit. The houses are cheap for a reason.
the suburbs and other parts of detroit are really well seperated I'm dumb so I don't remember the freeway/highway that pretty much goes right between the poorer parts of the city and the suburb, I think there's power lines and fences or something too separating it it's kind of crazy actually, least that's what a friend of mine going to school there told me. if anyone from detroit could actually clear up what he meant cause I don't really remember
the suburbs and other parts of detroit are really well seperated I'm dumb so I don't remember the freeway/highway that pretty much goes right between the poorer parts of the city and the suburb, I think there's power lines and fences or something too separating it
There are actually a lot that do, I-94, I-75 and M-10 are just a few examples. There aren't really any fences separating the areas though, it is more of a slow creep from block to block, and it is pretty obvious when you go down US-24 too.
There are actually a lot that do, I-94, I-75 and M-10 are just a few examples.
yea those sound familiar. they make it as hard as possible for people living in urban area's to even reach the suburbs like I know a lot of cities have this, but detroit really takes segregating to a whole new level

There has been talks as of late before filing for bankrupcy to put a bullet train connecting Brhingham (one of the richest area of Metro Detroit) and Downtown Detroit just because it is a clear shot down.
"I called 911 to report that I had been kidnapped because he closed the doors behind me and he refused to let me off," HA! I can't even remember being that much of an asshat when I was a kid. And this isn't flaming, this is constructive criticism. Grow up.
Yeah but its Detroit. The houses are cheap for a reason.
It is more or a irrational fear from outsiders than the actual bad areas.
Detroit suburbs aren't that bad and the houses are like incredibly cheap. edit: literally nice huge 6 bedroom homes for 60,000. It's insane.
someones at my school bought a 5 bedroom house from 1916 in a little fixer upper condition for 17,000 which included all taxes being paid off. the neighborhood is nice and the house is gorgeous. It's in the new center area
what the fuck are you saying
Sounds like a mix of victim blaming and defending crime because it's "normal".
Stay out of Detroit.
Fixed that for ya'
