Suggestions on monitors that are avaliable in Australia - 144Hz or 1440p or both? Options?

I have an old LG Flatron W2243T that makes seemingly every monitor that I compare it to look better than it.
I'm thinking that I should update the monitor now so that I don't have to both upgrade my system and the monitor; plus, I'd like it if my games looked better.
I've got this build and I'm not sure whether I should go for 1440p (even though I don't currently play very demanding games), 144Hz (because I don't know if my older games will look terrible stuck at 60fps), or both (just for futureproofing.)
Plus, I don't even know what the full available selection is in Australia, what's available for a good price or whether it's better to get something from overseas.
Is there anyone who has bought a monitor recently in Australia that can help me with this?
Got an Acer Predator XB271HU recently and it's very nice, pretty much end game pre-4k at 1440p165 with GSYNC.
Gotta watch out for the XB271HUA (I assume the A stands for awful) which is ~$100 cheaper but TN instead of glorious IPS. Place I got mine from messed up the pricing and put the IPS at the same price as the TN so I grabbed that for $817 (TN is $829 currently).
Also bought a Dell U2715H for work and my god are the colours on that thing incredible, only 60 Hz though unfortunately.
Though I'd say if you're coming from under 1440p you're better off going to 120Hz+ first if you can't fit both in the budget as even the desktop experience is more enjoyable than 60Hz.

Both bought locally in Australia.
I should say that I'm not sure I have space on my desk for a 27 inch monitor, but I do think it's possible; the base just has to be small enough to fit between my tower and the router.
Keep an eye out for a Pixio PX277 as well, they're constantly unavailable here but you guys sometimes get Koreashit better. It's solid for what it is, and your 980 should be okay. Not maxed out, but my 290x runs like a nonreference 980 and it chugs along fine for most games at 1440p.

Well that's the Predator out, what with its 445mm base and all.
i've been trying to find my similarly ideal monitor and i haven't been able to (also in australia). i want
1440p
144hz
freesync 2 + hdr
either ips or an oled equivalent
ideally not curved but i can settle
the S2716DG has a pretty small base. the S24 is even better than the S27, too

sorry for the messy desk
I can't see where to find this in Australia; even then, sales prices for this monitor have been about $800 AUD. I'm not sure if I'll find a better deal but this seems a bit much for a monitor...
get a desk mount
Sorry to bump this, but I think I've found a place where I can get the S2417DG for cheaper than $859: right here on Newegg, which ships to Australia.
My question is more tangential, but it is important: for those who have used NewEgg, why does it recommend the more expensive option from AntOnline when Newegg themselves offer it for cheaper?
Final bump.
Somehow the express shipping on Newegg was cheaper than the normal shipping, but my S2417DG is on the way.
@Inacio , I hear that the colour settings are garbage when it arrives. Did you have to do anything to get it to look good?
