• Substitute for flux for reflowing xbox 360?

I have a rrod xbox 360, and penny trick and towel trick didn't work. I need to reflow it, but don't have any flux available. Is there a way i can do it without flux or a substitute for it? PS, what is a "Console test suite 3.80.4" ? theres a sticker on my motherboard that says that.
You don't generally need flux, just heat the pads.
I am using a hair dryer with a tinfoil funnel around the front, it does generate enough heat.
How far are you willing to go to fix Microsoft's piece of shit hardware?
Flux helps make sure that when the solder is molten again it does not try and bind with other blobs of BGA solder near it and ruin the whole board. I strongly suggest you look for flux and not try any substitutes. Also, a hair dryer is not hot enough. You need a heat gun.
Well i ordered some, thanks for the help. Can you reflow the hana chip?
Personally I don't do it but the routine to do so is straightforward and similar to how you reflow the graphics chips on laptops.
I am using a hair dryer with a tinfoil funnel around the front, it does generate enough heat.
Hair dryers don't get to 600F, which is the melting point of 60/40 solder. ROHS solder requires higher temperatures, which is used in the XBox 360
Flux helps make sure that when the solder is molten again it does not try and bind with other blobs of BGA solder near it and ruin the whole board. To properly reattach a BGA chip, you either need a special tool to apply solder balls or a reflow station.

Uh a hair dryer wont do shit to reflow Get a heat GUN
I recommend you not to search for substitutes. For my xbox I use CS-FLUX and I have no complain. This is a cheap product that helps a lot in the process of reflowing. If you want check a youtube video named '' CS-FLUX application instructions for GPU removal or reflow '' for more details
